With a goal to make John Abbott College a leader in health-related fields, a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday for the CEGEP's new science and technology building.

 

The new five-storey, $30-million project will house facilities to train nurses, ambulance technicians and pharmaceutical technicians.

 

"This will train students in English in areas where we have a shortage of qualified workers," said Education Minister Line Beauchamps.

 

To be completed in 2012, the building, equipped with geothermic heating, will benefit from $8 million in financing from federal and provincial governments.

While I am glad that John Abbott is expanding, I'm disappointed that they cannot seem to do anything with Brittain Hall. It has been mostly derelict for 20 years and is an eyesore on the campus.

I remember how bad it was to park at Abbott when I was going there, they charged us a lot of $$$ and then you'd show up and have to park on the grass as they oversold spaces... don't even want to imagine it now

What a disappointment. Totally ruined the campus - they should have respected the existing architecture. They had an entire abandoned building that could have been redeveloped instead.
