Everybody is in favour of intelligent decisions, including in respect to density in the downtown core. 

First problem: not eveybody shares the same understanding of what is 'intelligent".   At least, you are clear on its meaning for you, i.e. high-rises. 

Second (and more important) problem: discussions/decisions in respect of density cannot be confined to the "downtown core": it is far too small to have a substantial impact on the overall issues related to the optimal configuration of the metropolitan area.  Among those issues, land use, zoning, transportation, environmental impact and economic viability and competitiveness are prominent.  A "perfect" downtown core in the midst of a vast and messy periphery would be a laughing matter.  In other words, look at the whole thing.

Des commentaires réfléchis, intelligents et toujours très pertinents. En effet il faut d'abord savoir nuancer, puis voir le grand tableau avant de cibler les détails, ce qui a l'avantage de mieux mettre en perspective l'appréciation générale de la ville. Ici notamment au centre-ville montréalais les densités sont très variables.

Mais on peut tout de même y voir une recherche d'équilibre en mettant en valeur certains quadrilatères stratégiques, qui ont un rôle nettement plus structurant en comparaison avec d'autres zones plus allégées dans le même voisinage. En effet en urbanisme et particulièrement dans une ville comme Montréal, on doit tenir compte de multiples contraintes (pas seulement le Mont-Royal) pour déterminer la meilleure densité pour un lot donné. Une science complexe qui doit entre autre tenir compte des infrastructures visibles et invisibles, incluant leur capacité maximum, tout cela dans un marché qui a lui-même ses propres règles.

Merci pour les photos. Un immense chantier qui peu à peu déverse ses tonnes de béton et d'acier dans ses énormes fondations qu'il submergera éventuellement, faisant apparaitre à terme une des plus grandes concentrations d'unités d'habitations au centre-ville.
