  1. Wow, they're even climbing into the construction site and putting graffiti in there! I would think the construction site shouldn't be so easy to break into.. I imagine the owner would be liable if someone got injured..
  2. This building is way too wide... Going to really make the skyline look stumpy
  3. That Concordia Fine Arts building is really looking out of place. It would be a great spot for a 200m building!
  4. Southwark

    Le Chatel

Check the Google Reviews.. Seems like it is still inhabited..... "I get a notice around March stating that balcony repairs will take place on the entire building between March and June 30th. That is happening during a pandemic and a curfew where people are required to work remotely. Besides the psychological pain from the construction from 8 in the morning, there is no way you can carry out your job and have meetings/ Then, they never finished by June 30th as promised and when I asked the administration, they told me that they should finish supposedly by September. When I told them about their notice, they said that was only for one side of the building although the notice CLEARLY stated it was the ENTIRE building. Yes, they used the word "entire" in the notice which is a big word in this context."
  5. This looks like one of those bleak tower blocks that are common in the banlieues of Paris or Brussels...
  6. This building really is quite ugly from this angle.
  9. It's also nice to see that neither Victoria-sur-le-Parc or the National Bank tower will block the view of the Tour de la Bourse from this angle. Instead they will fill in the gap and block the unsightly Evo residence.
  10. The cladding is more mediocre than I was expecting. Kind of like Louis Bohème. I was hopping for black coloured steel and glass
  11. It's not bad compared to 20 years ago when they weren't building anything around there. Maybe we'll see taller buildings if this trend continues. The Tim Hortons would be perfect for a 30-40 storey building
  12. Le Saint-Francois had a bit of a Barcelona look to it with the way the part facing the intersection was set back a bit.
  13. It is OK. I find it a bit too massive with the same façade continuing for too much distance. I would have preferred that this be divided into at least 2 projects. And to be honest, I find it a bit tall.. It dwarfs the historic buildings around it somewhat.. Maybe varying heights would have worked better? Additionally, I would prefer more of a normal pattern of windows, and less "random". Having said that, this would go well in a lot of locations. If the Palais de Justice could be moved, a project like this would be much more harmonious with the area..
  14. This building has a real "Berlin" or "Rotterdam" look to it.
  18. It's insane how much this looks like what was built in Griffintown.
  19. The prefab has a bit of a pattern. It makes it a bit less jarring than on most buildings. Although the slight difference in colour compared with the stone is strange. They should have tried to match the colours better
  20. It reminds me of Edmonton circa 2009 for some reason.
  21. This is a downgrade. It seems like the Brix from Bleury but slightly taller. It's not really an attractive building. The balconies on the podium are obscene.
  22. I really like this one. A million times better than the Drummond twins and anything on Bishop or Crescent. Slim building + dark red brick + no balconies = win.
  23. We can't accept this method of statue removal, regardless of who the subject is. If it becomes acceptable for one, the same logic would be applied across the board. Certainly there are more than a few people who don't like almost any historical figure in statue form. It will never stop now that heads have started to roll. What would people say if activists ripped down the statue of Montreal's founder Paul Chomedey sieur de Maisonneuve who until recently even had a plaque that bragged of him killing indigenous people with his bare hands? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4777249 If the statues are going to be removed, it should be done properly and democratically. The statues should be preserved. My suggestion would be to make a statue park somewhere and move these statues to it. Something similar was done in Hungary with old statues from Soviet times. A regime responsible for millions of deaths of its own people.
  24. Pre-fab gets a bad rap on here sometimes, but this is an example of it done really well. Way better than some window-wall spandrel mess or the another charcoal/yellow brick building.
  25. Thanks for the photos! One thing I'm not crazy about is the protruding balconies in the back. It's also interesting to see they are going with the regular pre-fab even above the blank wall area on the south side. And there is even a little on the front next to the neighbouring building. Will this type of pre-fab be used on the rest of the building above the podium? Only the podium gets the better quality stone I imagine?
