    REM de l'Est

It’s not a strawman argument if it suggests that you should compare apples with apples.

I realize that. Sorry if it sounded like I’m talking past you; I was just countering the generalization of Vancouver and NYC trains being elevated. That said, I can’t wait to find out what residents of DDO, Roxboro, and Pierrefonds think when the elevated portions are fully built just a few feet from their backyards, or worse, when a train blows by every five minutes in both directions every rush hour…
  3. Triple play! Very well done.👍🏼

Yeah we’ve been over this before, Tokyo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and others. But it is somewhat difficult and disingenuous to compare crowded, vertically-oriented Asian cities with our rather serene western downtowns. But not Manhattan. Again, NYC isn’t comparable to anywhere else in North America.

SkyTrain goes below downtown Vancouver, both cut-and-cover as well as bored tunnel. Similarly, there are no elevated trains in Manhattan.

Building an elevated guideway above the Central Station trench would require extremely complex reengineering of the entire RL viaduct over the tracks.

No. Nobody. Not one person ever. Especially not in these forums.

    Autoroute 35

More like an overpass than an interchange, to be honest. It makes the 13/440 connection look ultramodern and efficient (it’s not).
  9. Maybe the “emergency” messages will let Caroline Dhavernas show off her silky voice in her perfect American English, too.
  10. Has it? Lol most sites also have these neat o things called… heaters. FWIW it has briefly dropped to -26° a couple of times right about when I start work at 5 am and we… make sure the heaters are running. More like -18° this week. The additives and heaters and tarps/wraps are working.
  11. Le chantier vit toujours, donc pas de rigueur mortis non plus.
  12. Dude. I already said it’s not the walk that’s the issue; it’s the integration. Whether it’s Edouard-Montpetit, Centrale/Bonaventure, or Vendôme, or even just getting to the airport on REM via Bois-Franc, why is complexity designed into the transfer? Why must one get the surface to go back downstairs (or vice-versa at BF)? At Centrale, there was already a primitive one-way connection, and as pointed out above, the Caisse promised at the outset that it would be improved to provide “direct access” between modes, but now it appears the connection will be completely deprecated. I could go on and on but…
  13. STM Vendôme↔️exo Vendôme… opportunité ratée. Canora… complètement ratée. Train de l’est/Ligne Mascouche↔️REM… oh my dog. Dorval… même pas besoin de me répéter.
  14. I believe they needed about one third of the total fleet in order to start service on that segment, or about 35 sets.
  15. I honestly think it’s a copout to blame it on the pandemic. The work sites in the West Island are rolling along full steam ahead, and if it weren’t for the challenges involved in redeveloping the Mount Royal tunnel, it’s very likely that much of the West Island could have been operational within the next year. They should be more forthcoming, and say that they are having technical difficulties, such as spending months installing the last two spans behind Costco, for example.
  16. Well let’s hope they can work together and build it, along with the Pont des Voyous.
  17. Maybe not Oasis-class ships, but definitely very large ships such as the one @KOOL originally mentioned (the pic is gone), a behemoth holding over 2000 passengers and 600 crew. At 900 feet and 69,000 GRT, it’s longer than and almost as large as the first “mega-ship,” Royal Caribbean’s Sovereign of the Seas, by far the largest cruise ship afloat just 33 years ago.
  18. The project is rejected. His post quotes the snippet of the article says a tower is “to be built” without acknowledging the part that says the building has been “rejected because of a-b-c-d” and “maybe we can reach a compromise, they seem like good guys.”
