Project with 3 x 50 storey towers and a 45 storey hotel along with a new convention center is now being built in Ottawa. (December 2021). The first out house - shanty town slum is going to be preserved at the corner of Boulevard Je Me Souviens and WTF Avenue!!!!!! :silly:

  4. Wow, dirty pool alright. While IC is busy building in Chicago, France , Toronto and elsewhere.... Okay the Manulife Bldg in Mtl. Cadillac Fairview has been busy putting together a rather handsome and well thought out redevelopment of one of Montreal's most neglected corners. Think about it. The Bell (Molson)Center opened in 1996 and nothing else has gone up since. The exception is the Place du Commerce Electronique finished in 2004 at a quarter of the size of the original Project which was heavily subsidized by Bernard Landry's PQ government. We now have the Deloitte/RioTinto Tower( getting close to occupancy) and la Tour du Canadien(in construction) and the TDC2 & 3 are on the verge of launching. So IC was caught with their pants down and are crying, because Deloitte is leaving their flagship PVM. That is a free market and too bad so sad for IC. The CF investments have spurred on Roccabella, Icone, Broccolini(Avenue) and the Holiday Inn and the other 38 storey YUL tower. So what has IC spurred on lately??????
  5. Just imagine if the height limitation was lifted. How many new buildings would surpass 233 m (764 ft). In Toronto 10 buildings ,including the CN tower are 233 meters or more. It has taken 50 years to build up Toronto's skyline and only 10 buildings are over 233 meters!! A few of them are over 233 meters because of their antennas or masts which is calculated in the overall height.So if the restriction was lifted in Montreal, How many do you think would surpass this limit. 1, 2 or 3 maybe over the next 20 years!!! In 20 years who knows what the future administrations will decide. If these 3 or 4 tall buildings were ever built, how much can they hide especially if they are slim buildings and are placed like the 1250 René Levesques, skinny side perpendicular to Mt.Royal. Just a reflection. ;)

But then there’s his large property holdings on Nelson Island. What’s so fascinating about that one is that he co-owns the property with an oil company, Kootenay Oil Distributors Ltd. They don’t plan to drill for oil together. It’s a beautiful tourist spot — maybe perfect for a nice big condo development.   9. What is important here is that the city makes sure that this group headed by Carbonleo is damn serious about this project and that it is not simply a ploy to jack up land values for speculators. Once that is established, the city can ask for miodifications and ensure that the project fits in with the least disruption posssible. Once this commitment to build and target dates and financing is in place - let them build this project. I worked for 20 years on DevonShire facing Kraft. Let me tell you this is one of the worst examples of an industrial slum. Ugly buildings and streets that go nowhere because of Blue Bonnets and the CP Cote St-Luc Yards. This project will be the spark for the redevelopment of the Blue Bonnets Site and in the future, the CP lands. Let's stop the "Gros Village" mentality. Montreal has a population pool of over 4 million people. Edmonton barely has over 1 million, yet they have the West Edmonton Mall and no-one is bitching about the big redevelopment of the downtown area around the new Oilers arena. Go to Toronto and drop your jaw, it's only 6 hours away , they have the Vaughn Mils, the Woodbine complex etc,etc. They have a pool of about 5.6 million in the GTA so what is everyone worried about?? All the people in downtown Montreal have plenty of stores to go to in the area. Is it better for Montrealers to go to 10/30 in Brossard or the malls in Laval?? So let the cards fall in the right places and let's back some serious private investments.......We bitch when ther is no private investment and we bitch when ther is some activity in the private sector......Sometimes I wonder if it's me or is everyone out to ruin Montreal!!!

  11. I am really fed up with all these f'en nimbys. I worked on Devonshire facing Kraft foods form 1978 to 1996 when my company finally moved to a location near Ikea. This area is a DEAD zone...After 5 pm there is absolutely nothing going on. The only activity was from people parking around the area heading to Blue Bonnets.Now that the raceway has been closed for years the area is a wasteland. Wait until the CPR Cote st Luc yards close, and they will. This will become a no mans land. So we have a developer with deep pockets and great connections who wants to redevelop the whole area and people are against it???? What the fuck is wrong with people? Billions and billions of dollars being planned for investment and people are against it. Holy crap just close the fuckin city and let nature take irts course. Other cities like Detroit , Buffalo, Flint, Milwaukee, etc etc etc would sell their souls to get these type of projects but no not here we listen to fuckin citizen groups that are concerned about their fuckin front lawns. I am for responsible well thought out city development planning as well as making sure that the developers are seriously committed and have the financial means and backing. However, let's not start shitting on every project that some well meaning business that wants to make money and also make a positive addition to the community's fabric presents for approval. Let's encourage these developers and help them to modify and perfect the projects. This project if it goes ahead, will generate interest in the surronding areas...yes, Blue Bonnets included. Some people mention Blue Bonnets first but don't forget Blue Bonnets is land locked by the Expressways and this dead zone and the Cote St. Luc Yards. So open the dead zone and Blue Bonnets has a new fresh opening that will invite more investors and eventually the CPR yards will also be developed.. L'élévation de l'île de Montréal diminue lorsque nous approchons le fleuve Saint-Laurent et le niveau de la nappe phréatique monte. Ils ont des problèmes similaires à New York et n'importe où, lorsque les bâtiments avec des fondations profondes sont à proximité de grandes masses d'eau. À Shanghai, certains bâtiments se sont enfoncer lentement parce que le mélange d'eau et sol devient comme des sables mouvants. Si vous vous souvenez le Westin sur Saint Antoine avait fait face à des retards similaires en raison de niveaux d'eau, et ca fait seulement 6 ou 7 ans. Patience!!!

La Presse had it's head office built back in the 50's and they had a shit load of problems and delays because of the undergrounfd streams and rivers. I remember my late father telling me stories about the construction headaches that they faced putting up the La Presse building.   15. Il y a une grue à tour à l'ancien marché de St-Léonard. Il s'agit du nouveau bureau de la direction régionale d'Urgence Sante pour Montréal, je crois. Ils ont un panneau d'affichage avec une photo de l'édifice. Ce sera un bâtiment de 5 ou 6 étages qui fera face sur la rue Jarry est. Hopefully it will be a good seller and so it'll spawn a new crop of condo projects spreading up to the Montreal Children's Hospital area and Cabot Square.

  20. Come on Rocco, don't take the message literally. What I meant to say was is there still a plan to eventually get a new headquarters built for Hydro Quebec? Of course it would not be the 1980 project. Think about the Bay Adelaide project in Toronto, after 25 years something is finally rising as that project. Or closer to home, will SNC Lavalin eventually build a second tower on their vast stretch on Rene Levesque. Just hoping that HQ will come up with a mega project. Imagine 300 Milion in 1980 would probably equate to 1 Billion dollars today. One can only dream!!

  23. Holy craps!! Please move this thread to the in construction section. The whole bowling alley and the old Pharmaprix have been fenced in and a plywood fence is on the front part of the site along Jean Talon......Demolition should start right after the construction vacations.What a great addition to the area and good riddance to that eyesore!!! Now if Crofton Moore could invest in more renovations and improvements to the shopping center's outside this area will be completely rejuvenated!!!
