    Terre des hommes

The sixties were part of an era that we'll have to hope can repeat. Sure there were problems in the 60's but when things had to be done everyone was ready to go and get S**t done. Today we need 10 studies, 15 consultations, 12 government interventions, 22 financial feasibility meetings and numerous other red tape. So stuff takes forever or never gets done. When it gets done it usually an f'n mess. Examples: Cavendish extension, redo of Notre Dame East, Mirabel Airport, Montreal roads, LaFontaine tunnel, Metropolitain Boul. ,Hwy 50, Hwy 440 and 640 extensions. Need I go on. No vision, no desire to succeed and finally no pride in getting stuff done right!
  3. I grew up during the Jean Drapeau Era. Drapeau may have made some bad decisions like the Olympic Stadium, the Van Horne Mansion demolition. However, he truly loved this city. Montreal had better streets, sidewalks. He brought us Expo 67, the Metro, the Olympics and the EXPOS. He put Montreal on the map. Our present mairesse has brought us bike paths, horrible streets and sidewalks. We need a Drapeau 2.0
  4. Come on!! Le 25 etages Broccolini sur Sherbrooke.etc and more to come!!
  5. Something is wrong with the project specs. 22 floors with a height of 37.4 meters??? That gives an average of 1.70 meters per floor and that includes the thickness of the floorplates. Got to be at least 65 or 70 meters!!
  6. The Livmore Toronto So now we have our own Livmore in Montréal. Do we really need these petty arguments. It's an architectural appreciation forum!
  7. Experts agree—the best temperature to pour concrete is between 40° – 60°F. When temperatures dip below 40°F, the chemical reactions that strengthen concrete slow down and can lead to weaker concrete. If concrete curing temperatures are below freezing, the water inside the concrete can freeze and expand, resulting in cracks. Folks get the facts before making assumptions.....so don't be surprised if no concrete gets poured.

  12. As long as this doesn't happen like in China!!
  14. https://www.royalmount.com/articles/insight-constructionrestart Folks looks like construction has begun for real. Check the link.
  15. Double decker is the point of my post . We have no room for making the met wider so double Deck is a possible solution. I have no secret admiration for Miami. Major boulevards that stop and restart after a blocked off area. Think of Langelier in the North end...Viau in the North end. Cavendish in the West end. We have the 440, the 13, Notre Dame est. Everything is half measures. Thank goodness that the new Champlain bridge and the Hwy 25 bridge were built by consortiums. We spend millions upon millions for studies but nothing ever gets built. So far over 60 Millon spent on studies for the Notre Dame east Boulevard...30 years later nothing is done.
  16. They make this elsewhere. Why can't we go ahead with something like this and make Montréal the city with the most beautiful and efficient highway in North America!! We've got no imagination here. We just b****, surrender and live in the misery while we blow billions on repairing and patching up structures that are basically sand and rust held together with frost fence.

  18. MOXY MARRIOTT MONTREAL Situated in downtown Montreal, the hotel will sit ideally north of Griffintown, an area that is home to The Bell Centre, Place Bonaventure, the Montreal train station and the soon-to-be new National Bank headquarters. Construction on the Moxy Montreal Downtown began summer of 2021, with the opening expected in 2024.
  19. Voila! Open the link and read it, should calm everyone!! Glad to be of service. https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2021/08/03/au-tour-du-beton-de-manquer-sur-les-chantiers
  20. Folks relax, Believe it or not there is a cement shortage and they will start pouring again tomorrow....65% sold . End of September it will be at street level. Every unit has a balcony and prices vary between $800 and $900 per square foot. ☺️
  21. Well the Boulevard Shopping Center will close as of December 2021. It was on the news and there will be a new metro station on part of the site. No plans yet for the rest of this very large piece of real estate. Might become a new hub for the revitalization of this area. Hopefully we'll be getting some news in the near future.
  22. https://bit.ly/info_sessions_2021 Timely discussion...January 20th virtual info session for the Royalmount project ..
  23. Well they have the area already fenced off. I am sure that the digging and pile driving will start in short order.
