    REM de l'Est

It’s deprecated info at this point, I believe it’s another platform that Alstom was required to divest to appease European regulators.
  2. That’s what SHE said
  3. I’ll post again just because… Crown Sydney, Barangaroo, NSW.

We talked about this in other threads; IMHO if REM were public transit then the idea might gain traction, but as a REM line (ie, for profit), it’s too costly.
  5. The name of the project rhymes with that of the adult-themed Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas…
  6. That’s the same as the original renders.
  7. Seems the storm drains are within the pillars as well.
  8. Civic leaders in Auckland saw right through them when they nixed the proposal.
  9. If this is the the final façade pattern I will be pleasantly shocked. It’s delightful.
  10. The poles are ~40 metres apart, but ever so slightly different from the spacing of the columns, so it really tweaks my OCD that the poles and columns are not in sync.
  11. My dog, this thing is going to be hideous. The poles for the overhead lines are way way WAY taller than I expected (or feared). West Islanders are going to be shocked and appalled when they see the final product, bearing little resemblance to the sleek wonder in all the renderings from 2016-on. The guideway level in Kirkland is already 20 m in the air, and these poles are another 6 m taller than that!

    Expos de Montréal

Yes, as I implied earlier — the city bent over backwards to land Amazon HQ2 and, along with the other levels of government, all but gave its left nut to any and all foreign businesses willing to set up a small office or warehouse here, tax breaks and concessions galore… but a local property owner wants to spearhead a wide-ranging social, industrial and commercial redevelopment project that would inject billions into the local economy and revitalize a long-neglected part of the city, and he’s the Devil incarnate.

  14. Most of the “noise” is over Ville-St-Laurent, Pointe Claire and Beaconsfield. 😉 The single-family homes south of the 20 in Dorval sell quickly and command relatively high prices compared to many other areas on the island.
  15. It’s possible the new generation jets have been exempted; I was out of the loop for 17 months and talk in early 2020 was “sooner rather than later.” A late 717 might cost an extra five grand. Worth it if it’s full (100 or more), not so much if it’s less than half full (<50). But we should talk about this in an Aviation thread.
  16. The airport has never had a “midnight closure.” There is a curfew between 23:00 and 07:00 that restricts operations by larger aircraft (generally any “mainline” aircraft, based on takeoff weight). Airlines operating flights that are running late and will land after 23:00 often have to pay fairly hefty penalties, though these airlines can apply for waivers based on a limited set of circumstances. There is no curfew for smaller aircraft, including regional and business jets, and general aviation. These curfews may be revised in the future as significantly quieter jets become ubiquitous — a CSeries CS300 Airbus A220-300 or A321neo makes much less noise than some regional jets and most turboprops! Notwithstanding the above, what does this comment have to do with this development?

I just find it very curious that the same public that vilifies milliardaire property owners, and regards them as total bastards for pursuing tax breaks and incentives to invest in and redevelop land in their own cities, also consider foreign milliardaire industrialists and e-tailers — who pay little or no tax, and treat their workers like siht — to be “visionaries” and geniuses.
