  1. Come to think of it, there isn’t a better place of architectural interest in Canada east of Toronto than Place d’Armes, with perhaps three of the best buildings and the finest place of worship in the country flanking all four sides.
  2. Is it often included as a point of interest on your presentations? I mean does it get a few minutes of attention while you’re in the Place going to or from the basilique? I agree that it deserves it. 🙂👍🏼
  3. It’s more than that, and I’ve been fortunate enough to attend performances at the Met, Sydney and La Scala, but it’s also definitely not populist entertainment. Those occasions were very special for me, and the tickets cost a good chunk of my trips’ budgets. But I’m among those who can’t afford to attend OSM, OM, or OdeM shows on a regular basis. Investing in world-class cultural and art facilities is never a terrible idea, but as government funds are constantly constrained, such investments must be made according to priority, and in my opinion should go way down the list.
  4. We are pretty good at decommissioning and demolishing old stadia and arenas. Autostade was a terrific football and soccer stadium, two sports that are played regardless of weather conditions; De Lorimier and Jarry were wonderful places to watch baseball, though definitely at the mercy of Mother Nature; the Forum would still be the best hockey arena in the world, were it not for rampant commercialism and the need for huge scoreboards, light shows, and deafening music to make up for a deficient product on the ice. At this point, I’d rather the three levels of government subsidize a roof for Jarry Tennis Stadium and supplementary facilities to benefit the community than putting any more money into yet another theatre venue dedicated to performances of limited appeal, able to be afforded but by the privileged classes.
  5. Tbf, the tracks and trains have always been there, but instead of a couple dozen long, slow, and loud suburban and intercity trains each day, there will be an additional 624 short, quick, and quiet light metros going by.
  6. I guess they’re done painting that ramp
  7. J’ai mis un “like” mais on devrait avoir un bouton “d’accord”, ce qui serait plus approprié. 😕

  9. Place Ville Marie and its main tower (1PVM) will always be iconic to me, though it’s already quite minimized from many angles — and is likely to be almost fully eclipsed in the not-too-distant future.
  10. Une de mes nombreuses casquettes 59Fifty des Expos, trouvée — I siht you not — à Delaware. IBM cachant la CIBC, Stade, PJC, 1501, Cathédrale, 1PVM et Château Champlain, 1000.

  12. Such a weird-looking pair of boxes.
  13. Off-topic: merci à vous deux d'avoir contribué à élargir mon vocab français. Un nouveau mot (à moi) plus élégant pour dire “ruiner.” Un beau cadeau de Noël!
  15. There’s an apt colonial-English name for such buildings, but it’s most often heard in the eastern hemisphere: “shophouses.”
  16. From those angles it seems like there’s a long way to go…
  17. Honestly by this point only the top foot or so is actually frozen.

The Polyvalent is also transferred to CAF, no? And Bombardier’s V300 Zefiro to Hitachi. Talent 3 is the closest thing to a “light rail” vehicle (as opposed to the Movia).
