  1. I agree about the power of the suffix: we could use "ish" like "bruatalish" or "modernish" when a new building goes up that sort of aspires to a style but never really pulls it off.
  2. The rooftop bar was great but the building itself was generic and dull: look down de Maisonneuve and you'll see a half dozen replicas.
  3. It's everywhere: https://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/nimbys-killing-new-york-future-article-1.3561275 https://nationalpost.com/opinion/ginny-roth-torontos-gutless-progressive-nymbyism-exalts-a-parking-lot-above-helping-the-poor https://www.chicagoarchitecture.org/2015/08/19/a-field-guide-to-chicago-nimbys/
  4. This rendering takes some serious "Artistic license" so I'm not sure what this will really look like.
  5. This seems to be part of the residential area: https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/new-social-housing-project-aims-to-transform-montreal-s-outremont-borough-1.5780466
  6. Whatever happened to the idea of a ground level tram running parallel to Notre Dame? I can't remember the thread but I remember it was a thing before all this started. Why was it dropped?
  7. Thursday February 10th They were working on the lights, there is actually water in the rink (maybe just rain), and check out the guys working inside the "chalet" (click on picture to Zoom in).
  8. View from petit Laurent
  9. It's the project that people love to hate. Personally, I think it adds some contrast, and we need housing for all incomes downtown, not just those who can afford condos.
  10. Let's wait for the cladding to pass judgement.
  11. Back in the 70"s that would have made a great selling point.
  12. I know, right? It's like half the building is staring down at La Shish: kind of creepy to be eating there.
  13. I agree but don't forget, downtown MTL (Ville-Marie) has a huge population of its own (89,170 in 2016, for a population density of 5,404.2 per square km) before all the condos that went up in the past six years. Plus the CBD also caters to Griffintown, Le Sud-Ouest, Verdu, LaSalle, and Westmount. The city centre will always have a draw, and post COVID, tourists are not going to come all the way to Montreal to visit the Royalmount.
  14. Really close to shopping; more ideal for a hotel?
  15. It would be a nice addition to an otherwise monochromic project
  16. A great sound barrier for the people living in the neighbourhood behind; too bad they lose direct sunlight in the process.
  17. LaSalle Heights: same era, common style ("Functionalist Fifties") Low Rises, Baltimore, made famous in the HBO series "The Wire".
  18. I agree - I drove past it today and it looks pretty good compared to the social housing project I grew up in.
  19. Totally different approach: let ministère des Transports du Québec rent wall space and have graffiti artist paint commercials
