  1. ^ My hope is that the Holt Renfrew block is acquired by/donated to the MBAM. It's a shame that the timing didn't work so that the money used to build the new addition could have been used for that purpose. The new addition is fine, but it's not great, and saw the demolition of two old Edwardians.
  2. very unfortunate.
  4. One imagines that if Montreal pays 1/3 of the Pink line, and Ottawa commits to paying 1/3, then Quebec will find it difficult to reject, even if it's the CAQ. The best situation, of course, would be a PLQ minority government with a 5-6 seat Solidaire caucus supporting the government on supply and confidence in exchange for a commitment to fund the infrastructure in Montreal.
  5. this building should win an award or something, truly stellar (aside from the anderson street side).
  6. Maybe a staging area or a sales office? Anyway, that's in 3 days, surely the project can't be
  7. what is the maximum height here? 60 meters?
  8. in total, how many units will the entire 21e arrondissement contain? 700? 800? that's potentially 2000 individuals on that block. excellent! it would be wonderful if the faubourg des récollets could one day house as many as 10,000 people.
  9. it's exciting to imagine the faubourg des récollets as a real neighborhood filled with people. 10 years from now, there might not be a single surface parking lot.
  10. big improvement over before. https://goo.gl/maps/ERPuiZjJ66v
  11. the only problem with this project is that it's demolishing a shopping center with a number of well-established businesses. a large commercial component should replace what was lost.
  12. Move the mature trees to the church parking lot on Mayor street to finally build the park on the stationnement there?
  13. no - a bit shorter, at 23 floors. also, they'll not sell any units on the first floor. so basically, on aggregate the units will be smaller than in drummond i.
  14. drummond II has sold 76/210 units, with another 8 units reserved. construction will apparently start this year.
  15. is this one just a placeholder? only the tower will rise for now? edit: hm, more likely it's just a bad rendering.
  17. ^ your sort of thinking is exactly why the old forum was renovated into a garbage can, and why the garbage can was turned into what it is today. you don't realize it, but everything shitty about montreal comes from your way of thinking. the cheapo podium/point towers are already out of vogue in normal cities, divimco/poirier is a shitty mall developer proposing to replace one of the iconic buildings with a griffintown/seville job. it's a deco wall, one of the last in montreal. i'm one of the most aggressive pro-growth people there is, believe me. but this proposal is a stupid mistake. build thousands of units, but keep the main building facing the park. as we've learned many many times, once something is gone, it's gone.
  18. i know how ugly a city can be. this is a nun's island condo design in a fantastic location. so, like nun's island, it will attract lavallois, south shore people, west island people, and immigrants from asia.
  20. 33 stories? 34? it's nice that the parking ingress on saint james will be gone, that's really nice. less nice is that this building looks ridiculous, though i think that the chinese and lavalois who purchase units will be satisfied. still, i'm glad to see something built. square victoria still has a giant hole that residential would fill just as well as commercial. and then we have the surface parking lots...
English: Generic garbage. Replacing one of Montreal's iconic buildings (the deco children's hospital building) with suburban/nun's island-style towers. It's a true shame and people should be angry/active. Political forces mobilized to kill the wonderful Alcan redevelopment but they're silent as this complex faces destruction. It's appalling. Suburban developers coming in to kill one of our most unique shared buildings.
  23. this will really cut quite the figure in the faubourg des récollets. hopefully it sells well and sets further development into action along saint jacques. little by little...
