Oui mais comme les autres communautés mentionnées, il y a une bonne portion du territoire dédiée à d’autres fonctions que l’habitation. Mais quand même, avec seulement 17 000 habitants, ce serait “way down the list” de villes considérées pour une ligne de SLR ou d’autres TEC structurant. C’est idéale pour le train de banlieu, et je répètes, un service bonifié ne serait qu’une bonne chose.

And because its population growth is relatively recent, it isn’t historically a “railway town.” 50 years ago it was a few riverside industries and a collection of farms; the population started growing quickly in the 1990s when most of the land was rezoned from agricultural to residential (my family owned two plots from the 60s to the 80s and couldn’t build on them), but except for a few low-rises on the main roads it is almost exclusively single-family homes and the buildable land it almost all occupied. Even its eponymous station on the Candiac line isn’t in Ste-Catherine — it’s in St-Constant. That said, Ste-Catherine station has fairly good ridership for such an underdeveloped line with so few trains, and its incentive parking lot is about the same size as that of the century-old Roxboro-Pierrefonds station that has double the ridership on a line that offered substantially better service.

More commercial traffic will always pass to the US along the 15 — incidentally, whatever happened to the plan to make the 15 to Lacolle a concrete trucking paradise? — but yes, the investment in that segment of A35 is for economic reasons, not for private cars. There is rarely any traffic at all between St-Jean and Philipsburg, but the potential for increased commercial traffic is large.

Seriously, I’d love to know which group is passing the buck on highway crossings at Alston (active) and Stillview (road) to the Fairview station. Kirkland already took the bull by the horns at Ste-Marie, I don’t understand Pointe Claire’s dithering approach.

Oui, c'est mal-desservi. Mais encore, c'est quoi la densité? Lachine est mal-desservi, et même avec deux-tiers de son territoire occupé de zones industrialisées, elle a une densité de ~3000/km. Terrebonne est une bonne example d'étalement urbain:

BINGO encore. Pas besoin de construire de nouveaux métros partout, surtout dans et entre des quartiers à moins de 1500 personnes par km. Par contre, des extensions du REM ou le métro accompagnées par la bonification des trains de banlieu et les réseaux de bus seraient rentables **et** vendables à l'électorat. Je chiâle assez souvent concernant les trains d'exo, l'exo1 VH en premier. Espérons que quelque chose surviendra là-dessus aussi.

Tokyo train stations (more so than the Tokyo Metro or Toei Subway) are somewhat busy with sound, but this is done on purpose. Taipei’s metro is very quiet by comparison.

Cela pourrait être vrai, mais c’est clair que la Caisse utilise le REM comme projet-modèle pour vendre ses expertises à l’étranger pour d’autres villes qui pensent èlaborer des systèmes de TEC et les veulent “clé-en-main.”

I did that last year!! Incidentally, easily one of THE hottest places I’ve been, 37° with 90%+ humidity. I’ve been in hotter temperatures (in Australia, Zimbabwe, even Kansas, all over 45° but dry), but I’ve never sweated as much as in Taipei in July (or Oman in October). Also after taking the MRT in Taipei or Singapore, or Dubai Metro, you realize how insanely loud our Metro is here. In the video above, the escalator is the loudest element!

Imagine the underground infra they'd have to deal with! It would honestly be just as easy to usurp two lanes from the Ville Marie and tunnel north from near RB. There hasn't been a need for four lanes in each direction in the Viger/VM tunnels since the baseball strike in 1994, and with a real rapid transit link along the ND axis there should be even fewer cars on the 720.

If Phase 1 takes eight years from announcement to full service (COVID delays notwithstanding), it’s entirely possible that an on-island Phase 2 like that which we are speculating right now might be completed before this decade is done.

J'avais mentionné quelque part que tout TEC structurant le long de l'axe ND devrait nécessairement passer sous le sol d'environ Solano à GFT ou Greene (selon la trajectoire ouest choisie). Je ne vois pas d'autre moyen, à moins qu'ils ne pensent pas au TEC rapide, juste un bus flashy sur rails.
