  1. Why is it so tall? If it had been 3 or 4 stories at most. it blocks the views of the beautiful buildings surrounding. what a shame. Vote Valerie out and then bulldoze this mastodonte
  2. If at least the materials were of good quality. The use of metal once reserved for sheds behind plexes - which the city spent a fortune and decades to remove - has taken over our city.
  3. Who is the architect, a who at the city green lighted this?
  4. Agreed. However, the space between the two wings has turned to be a no man’s land. Feels unsafe
  5. I wish they had knocked down the surrounding buildings and made it all green space around the church. The back of the church is spectacular, unfortunately lost amid these additions.
  6. Montreal should inspire itself with PENN Station and bring in natural lighting.
  7. Just for fun, I asked Chat GPT to develop suggestions for the Gare Centrale. Keeping with the Art Deco. Making a Grand Entrance to replace the parking/taxi entrance. With a skylight to replace the ceiling. Twin towers, modern, with a touch of Art Deco stonework.
  8. I hope they restore and maintain the DaGiovani sign in the design
  9. I just called the police - obviously, 311 does not work on a holiday weekend - they all live in the burbs or Villeray with Valerie. we can start to say goodbye to the Fairy Land bldg another broken window the woodwork (which were amazing throughout the lobby and bldg) have been burnt down it is so sad to see this city become nothing more than Detroit streets are dirty, architectural jewels are abandonned, politicians and builders trying to make a quick buck, corruption
  10. The prefab is horrible. What a legacy we leave behind.
  11. Here’s an example of a gap in a tower proposed for NYC
  12. Titanic had the best lunch in old Montreal. FYI: the building being renovated was home to André Boisclair

    Incendies à Montréal

Sad the only interesting architecture in the immediate area - the surrounding towers are so horrible.
  14. It sounds like CN is the one putting the brakes on such a great project. QC, MTL & CDN Governments are slow.
  15. Looks like a bad combover
  16. worth preserving and possibly moving so we can appreciate By Fritz Brandtner A bas-relief on Central Station that few Montrealers have seen since it was blocked by construction of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in 1958. There is another bas-relief of Mercury at the other end. These magnificent designs, at least ten feet long, used to be visible from the old Dorchester Street. Now they can only be photographed at an angle through very dirty windows in the staircases on either end of the station. The Mercury bas-relief has had some large tube place across it but fortunately is was not marred. If one walks under the skylight in the new food court in Central Station, these bas-reliefs are right above you but they cannot be seen because the skylight has frosted glass. We hope to get access to the space above the skylight to get some good photos.
  17. Could they not install led panels on the ceiling so that it could somehow be a huge flatscreen? The effect would be amazing.
  18. Inspiration from MOYNIHAN TRAIN HALL (NYC) There’s also room for Montreal’s Tallest Skyscraper - A new icon for the city.
  19. Kitsch maybe, but the Avis building (if the facade was spray washed) is so Mid century. and the man-elevators are worth the view
  20. What downtown Montreal needs is a major food market (Atwater Market) - where is everyone buying their food? The current grocery stores are sad and badly located. I remember the basement at Simpson’s and not too far one Ste Catherine there was a good grocery store. Bring a Milano or Eataly, a Trader Joe’s, a Whole Foods. Is there not enough residents of all these new condos to justify a return to downtown of good food?
