I find it concerning that you commented without first looking at the reasoning behind this:

They simply weren't able to test the noises on the elevated segments downtown since they got electrified a mere year ago, and tests with coupled train sets only started 6-7 months ago. That is not enough time to engineer a solution.

 

As a reminder, the initial test segment of the system ran from Brossard to Panama and didn't have any elevated sections (except the section that connects the highway 10 median to Brossard station, obviously already located in a loud environment, rendering tests irrational). That section also doesn't include any steel beams.

 

Interestingly, I've noticed that they tried to test certain system components on the initial branch before expanding them. For example, the tensioned L shape catenaries that are currently installed on the central viaduct were first tested between DQ and Panama in 2020, during catenary installation to make sure the design worked, but there is only so much you can test in advance. 

The segment we're seeing now is also a test segment of the entire line, and I'm glad that they're learning their mistakes now instead of later.

I'm not so willing to just give CDPQ a free pass on that one. With modern super computers, it is possible to simulate noise propagation, so CDPQ should have known. The fact is that there are elevated segments in quite a large numbers of cities across the globe. There are many ways to mitigate noise and CDPQ really should have taken a closer look at the technologies employed by other transit agencies to mitigate the noise.

The other part of the problem is the building code in Montreal. We've allowed nearby buildings to be built without proper sound insulation or sound deadening material covering the buildings. Worse yet, many of the materials that are used for esthetical reasons reflect and propagate sound. Montreal seriously needs to review its building code and probably should ban some materials that contribute to the overall noise level in the city. We also really like our straight angles in North America. Even slight modifications of the angle of walls can have a massive impact on noise propagation.

I mean, sure, the buck stops with CDPQ, but let’s not forget that the construction and infrastructure contract was given to the NouvLR consortium, while the rolling stock and performance contracts were given to the GPMM consortium — both groups having tons of experience in these areas. It’s unfathomable that nobody could guess that the methods and means they chose would have no effect on the local environment. Again, they cheaped out and hoped that nobody would care or notice.

Poor guy. Simply horrible. From 5am till 1am. How can this level of constant noise even be allowed is beyond belief.

Je crois pas trop aux excuse de "on ne savait pas que ca allait faire du bruit" Simplement observé d'autres projet de transport en commun du meme type dans le monde. 

On engage des  spécialiste dans le domaine il faut moindrement un peu de compétance et de jugement.

Ils le savaient déjà. À Vancouver les gens se plaignent du bruit du Sky Train. C'est rien de nouveau.
