Bonjour, Ces derniers jours, j'ai visité plusieurs projets de condominium. Les systèmes de chauffages offerts dans ces condos sont toujours les mêmes: les bonnes vieilles plinthes électriques situés au bas du mur pour bien assécher l'air. J'aimerais bien voir une certaine évolution de ce coté. Je pense surtout à la géothermie. Je ne vois que des avantages à cette source d'énergie, spécialement bien adaptée pour notre climat et pour les superficies supérieures à 2500 pieds carrés. Lorsque cette dernière condition est remplie, on rentabilise l'équipement rapidement. La chaleur et fraicheur du sol est puisé gratuitement. C'est rempli de bon sens. À date, je répertorie seulement 3 projets de condos à Montréal offrant la géothermie. By the time we get past St. Jean Baptiste day and July 1, whatever communal spirit the hockey playoffs have generated between francophones and anglophones has become a little frayed. Competitive parade-going is not an exercise calculated to bind a society closer together. This year had additional challenges to solidarity, with the tensions aroused by the Bouchard-Taylor Commission report and that stylized politicians' re-enactment of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham over the federal role in the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City. So it was a remarkable pleasure to learn, this week, that the linguistic, cultural and social divergences that seem to flare up so often are, according to academic researchers, basically insignificant. A new study has found that there are very few important differences in attitudes between francophones and anglophones in Quebec. Anglos here are far more like francophones than we are like anglophones in the rest of Canada or in the United States. Writing in the U.S. Journal of Social Psychology, researchers from Bishop's University conclude that Quebecers, no matter what their mother tongue, show comparable open mindedness and emotional stability and are equally productive on the job, careful, attentive and agreeable. A couple of stereotypes do remain true to some degree, the psychologists said of their sample of 50 francophones and 50 anglophones: anglophones are slightly more conservative. But centuries of living together have not only made us similar, but have also given us something of a distinct personality. That's a real "us," all of us, francophone and anglophone alike. The study authors say there are three distinct personality/culture areas in North America: Quebec; the U.S. South; the rest of Canada and the U.S. combined. In Quebec, we have opted for a system of social solidarity. Elsewhere, the preference is for a more individualistic, free-market approach to building a society. Quebec anglophones are not different from their francophone compatriots in that regard. The researchers think that because we share the same physical place and same lifestyle, we have come to share similar attitudes in many matters. This is good news, if only we could hear it. It means the weary identity politics which some use in an effort to divide us have little firm foundation. We can all get along.

La Maison productive, un projet totalement vert en construction dans le quartier Pointe-Saint-Charles, permet de réaliser de telles économies d'énergie. «Nous sommes très occupés à brûler la nature, mais on ne songe pas à remplacer ce que l'on prend», note Rune Kongshaug, l'entrepreneur général du projet. C'est lui, le cerveau derrière la Maison productive. Son but: réduire l'«empreinte écologique» du bâtiment en jumelant trois aspects du développement durable - l'efficacité énergétique, l'agriculture urbaine et le transport alternatif. Le design du bâtiment permet, à lui seul, de réaliser une partie des gains d'énergie. La fenestration généreuse, orientée plein sud, contribue à capter la chaleur du soleil en hiver. L'eau est chauffée au moyen des panneaux solaires installés sur le toit, tandis qu'une partie de la climatisation et du chauffage est assurée par un système de géothermie. Trois trous de 600 pieds de profondeur ont été creusés pour tirer parti de l'énergie solaire emmagasinée dans le sol. Produire et consommer localement Les résidants pourront produire eux-mêmes une partie de leur nourriture en cultivant un jardinet. L'«agriculture urbaine» - produire localement, consommer localement - permet de réduire la pollution liée au transport des aliments. Chaque appartement possède un espace pour aménager un potager dans la cour. Y pousseront aussi des pommiers, des cerisiers et des poiriers. Dans un coin sera aménagé un jardin de fines herbes rempli de basilic, de romarin, d'origan et de menthe. Un espace a aussi été réservé pour le compostage. Des légumes frais pourront être cultivés à longueur d'année dans une serre aménagée sur le toit, recouverte de housses pendant l'hiver. Certains légumes n'ont pas besoin de beaucoup de chaleur pour pousser. C'est le cas, entre autres, de plusieurs variétés de laitue (dont le bok choy), des carottes, des pommes de terre et de l'ail. Transport écolo Deux espaces de stationnement seront réservés au système de partage de voitures Communauto, et un abri à vélos sera installé dans la cour. Avec la proximité des pistes cyclables et de la station de métro Charlevoix, les habitants de la Maison productive n'auront plus vraiment d'excuse pour posséder une voiture. Mais attention. Même si elle a toutes les allures d'une commune, mode de vie en vogue dans les années 70, la Maison productive n'en est pas une. «C'est chacun pour soi. Chacun a sa responsabilité», affirme Rune Kongshaug, qui s'est lui-même réservé une unité. La moitié des huit logements disponibles - cinq condos et trois maisons de ville - sont déjà vendus. Les prix restent abordables: ils oscillent de 185 000$ à 417 500$ (avant taxes), pour des superficies allant de 860 à 1598 pieds carrés. La livraison est prévue pour mars 2009. D'origine norvégienne, M. Kongshaug est le fondateur d'Ensemble Terre-Ciel, une firme montréalaise qui se consacre au développement durable. Avec la Maison productive, il vise la certification LEED platine, la plus prestigieuse.
