I didn't realize that Montréal is the biggest city in the world built on an island surrounded by fresh water.

I know right? I didn't believe it either. Based on some research, the Island of Montreal:

• by far the most populous island in Canada
• 6th most populous island of the Americas (more populated than Manhattan)
• 37th most populated island on Earth 
• World's most populous island surrounded by fresh water

Cannot forget an island stuck between two capitals: Federal and Provincial.

De toute beauté! Une des plus belles réalisations de Montréal, et le montage est à l'avenant. Il manque juste le petit bonus habituel où on ajoute un punchline à la fin.

Imagine when you learn that the other side of the island was likewise dotted with difficult rapids, until a dam was built downstream from the Sault-au-Récollet)!  Before and during the early days of the fur trade, this made the island a fabulous place.  My personal identifier on this forum naturally stems from this fact.
