Imminent completion of the columns at the future Kirkland station. The row of columns from Boul. St-Charles to just across rue Houde (in front of Targray) are complete and ready for LG-Anne, and being poured in front of Safran and Nissan; the pieuteuse is working between Nissan and the westbound Ch. Ste-Marie overpass. The columns between the overpass and the future Kirkland station are in various stages of construction, but the saddle molds are up on some of the tallest (as seen in the distance here). This will be a fun vantage point in the coming months!

The last two pics are also excellent to point out that it wouldn’t be terribly difficult (or even overly-expensive) to build covered (but open), level-boarding platforms along exo1 Vaudreuil. I don’t buy CP’s story that freight trains are too wide to clear raised platforms. 😉

Not to stray too far OT of course, but Tokyo is HUUUUGE city of low-rises, townhouses and SFDs. Tokyo’s urban density is lower than Plateau, more like CDN-NDG, and its metro area density is similar to many of Montreal’s on-island suburbs, Laval or Longueuil. Paris and Manhattan are far more dense than Tokyo, but prices are high in all because the scarcity of land and immovable availability, and intense demand in certain neighbourhoods only. Pretty sure you can find a cheap place to stay in anywhere not yet gentrified, whether it’s the 9e or Staten Island. Now, can we please talk about 1Square Phillips? I’ll go, my usual question: what is the likelihood of it connecting to RÉSO, perhaps at The Bay or Air Canada?

I’m also interested to know why they’d do it rappelling (abseiling) instead of from a suspended scaffold. Perhaps they’re all doing different things at different speeds?

Hmm? Des brises moyennant 8 kmh, ce n’est pas tout-à-fait orageux. Il faudrait un ouragan pour secouer un bloc de béton de 48 tonnes tendu à partir de quatre câbles si costauds, de seulement 5 m de long. Imaginez un instant, les maçons les placent avec un dégagement d'un centimètre pendant que la grue entière les déplace; ils ne peuvent pas osciller du tout.

À chaque fois que je passes devant les ruines de l’ancien resto “Linguini” au début du parc industriel Baie-d’Urfé ça m’étonne toujours que personne n’a eu la sagesse de planifier que le train croiserait la 40 pour y terminer. Il y a des anciennes emprises de trains à marchandises des deux cotés de Galderma, et beaucoup de place pour une station sans parking, mais facilement accessible pour les ~12,000 travailleurs du parc.

En anglais, béton c’est “concrete,” et le mot est toujours mal-utilisé. C’est le matrix de diverses ingrédients qui solidifie en unitè. Même l’asphalte, c’est une “concrete.”

I’m honestly not expecting anything remarkable from Centrale and McGill stations, but I look forward to the final renderings for Edouard-Montpetit, Aéroport and Dorval (😉). Some of the initial renderings for Aéroport showed the hewn cavern look that is reminiscent of the Stockholm Metro.
