  1. Quebec ending tax credits for the IT sector, that's gonna hurt big time. The CAQ has set us back so far, I don't even think we will recover this decade anymore, maybe longer now.
  2. June 7th/June 8th at Jean Drapeau: Chainsmokers and Pitbull. Evenko and Google Pixel led.

  6. Another L for the city, it's ruthless.... https://montrealgazette.com/business/local-business/mtl-intl Foreign direct investment fell 24 per cent in 2023, Montreal International says The 87 investments completed in the city in 2023 helped to create 5,983 jobs with an average salary of $97,500, Montreal International says. Published Feb 26, 2024 • Last updated 41 minutes ago • 1 minute read As Quebec works toward a goal of eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, Montreal International says it’s now focusing on projects that are sustainable. Photo by John Mahoney /Montreal Gazette Foreign direct investment into the Montreal area slumped 24 per cent last year as the global economic slowdown accelerated. Quebec’s biggest metropolitan area attracted 87 foreign direct investment projects worth $2.74 billion last year, Montreal International, the city’s non-profit investment promotion agency, said Monday. That’s down from a record 102 projects worth $3.58 billion in 2022. Data released in January by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development show that foreign direct investment flows rose three per cent globally last year. Foreign investment into North America was flat, UNCTAD said. As Quebec works toward a goal of eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, Montreal International says it’s now focusing on projects that are sustainable or that meet essential needs in strategic value chains. Cleantech and environmental services projects set new highs in 2023, the agency said. Cleantech investments hit $643 million, or 24 per cent of the total projects supported by Montreal International last year. Investors include German logistics and shipping company DHL, which picked Montreal to start the electrification of its nationwide vehicle fleet, and Norwegian recycling company Tomra, which acquired equipment to improve recovery processes. Combined, the 87 new investments completed in 2023 led to the creation of 5,983 jobs with a record average annual salary of $97,500, Montreal International said. In 2022, the total was 8,287 positions with an average salary of about $88,000. This story will be updated. ftomesco@postmedia.com
  7. At this point, I'm just ready to scrap the park, demolish/relocate the rides and just make it a new downtown neighbourhood. We have Canada's Wonderland 6H away for entertainment, that's becoming a 365 day destination park anyways
  8. Condor and Gravitor have been removed from the park, the ride purge continues.... Le Monstre is having some re-tracking done, not RMC or GCI track. The CF/SF merger got delayed, but I'm praying that does wonders for the park. If not, it's either the city breaks the lease for new owners, or the park closes and everything gets scrapped.
  9. Milanchase launched an office here at the Sunlife building. Locally based, but their first physical office.

  11. Looking at this and the whole Bonaventure redevelopment in general, I think we should push for a colourful and artistic neighbourhood. We don't really have a true area like this. I'm getting tired of the whole grey/black prefab or dark brick facade, I would love for a whole new area to be full of different colours, murals on every single building, public art, vibrancy at every corner and of course, some height. We need something different in this area, and with this now considered as "downtown" I think having a purely arts district (and a world's largest at that) would be a fantastic evolution.
  12. This just shows how weak Canada is, we need to be tough on crime here, lock up these savages and make sure they never see daylight again. But all levels of government are a joke, so nothing is being done to ensure the safety of citizens. "Yeah, it's going to heat up" is not a reassuring thing to say in the media. Looks like yet another bloodbath for the city, add it to the constant L's the city has been taking since 2024 started.
  13. So sorry to bump this thread, however, did not see a current one about homicides and did not feel like making a new thread. Regardless, the city is already at 6 murders, which is about a 500% increase YoY at the same time of the year. With increased gang activity, domestic disputes, drugs, mental health issues, homeless, the city is on a very dangerous track. At this pace, we will probably hit 50 or more murders this year. This comes after the SPVM and city celebrated too early about a crime drop. I know our rates are lower than major cities in the U.S and all that, but it does not change the fact that the city has gotten pretty ghetto and dangerous.

  18. ^ nevermind that, let's talk about the increased homeless/mentally ill people on the streets AND in the establishments themselves. That's another reason, if not, the main reason why people are not going out anymore in the first place, nor are we seeing restos serving food at 3-4am like they did pre pandemic. The streets are empty at midnight, it's truly sad. I still stay out until 3am or later, but there have been times where it's just me and my friends on the streets, noone else. We still go bar hopping to support businesses, but with everything happening locally and globally, it's gonna be a rough time here.

  20. Atkins Realis, they will remain HQd here. But they quietly moved their U.S hub to Tampa Bay this year.
  21. Simplicity Car Care expanded to Quebec, two new locations with one being in MTL. Small company based in Ontario, but I'll take the small victories for now.
  22. That's a significant loss YoY....
  23. I pray to whomever Gods out there that this does not get **cked up and we can finally compete with other cities for events and sports games in 4 years...
