Dans le cadre de la dernière phase de développement du Quartier des spectacles, la Ville de Montréal prévoit réaménager les alentours de l’esplanade Clark en s’appuyant sur un budget de 67,159 millions de dollars. De manière plus précise, cette somme devrait, entre autres, permettre « le réaménagement de la rue Clark, entre la rue Sainte-Catherine et le boulevard Maisonneuve […], le réaménagement de la rue Montigny et la réalisation de travaux d’aménagement complémentaires, dont ceux visant à améliorer l’accessibilité universelle ». L’aménagement de l’esplanade Clark est aussi au programme. Selon les documents approuvés par le comité exécutif mercredi, l’espace situé en face de la Maison du développement durable devrait notamment céder sa place à une patinoire réfrigérée et à un pavillon de services multifonctionnel. Les plans et devis sont prévus pour l’hiver 2016. Les travaux, quant à eux, devraient se terminer en décembre 2018. À pareille date l’an dernier, le maire de Montréal, Denis Coderre, laissait entendre qu’un stationnement verrait le jour sur l’esplanade Clark. Il ne restait alors qu’à déterminer si ce dernier allait être étagé ou souterrain. Dans le plan adopté cette semaine, ce scénario — qui semblait pourtant coulé dans le béton en décembre 2014 — paraît avoir été écarté par l’administration municipale. La Ville doit dévoiler sa politique de stationnements au courant de la semaine prochaine, a indiqué Aref Salem, responsable des transports. -

I was happy at first to know that this vacant lot was finally going to be developed. I live on Clark st, across the street from Loft des Arts. I am no engineering expert, but I really don't like this project. First, I agree that the two buildings look massive! Most of the buildings around this area are middle sized constructions. I prefer the original project when this was still Loft des Arts phase 2, it looked much nicer with the buildings being approximately the same size. Also these new buildings will block the sun from the park nearby. And yes, this looks like an extension of the habitations-jeanne mance, it kinda looks like an affordable housing complex. But I think all the new people living here can actually help develop the commerce around the area, which right now is pitiful. But again I am happy that something is going to be built here, this stretch of St Laurent needs some new life. Hopefully this will help start some other projects nearby like the Esplanade Clark, Carré St Laurent and the metro St Laurent lot.
