It happens all the time, when I was in school learning French (in MONTREAL), our teacher was an immigrant from France, and that's the French we were taught, which IMHO it makes no sense whatsoever. She said that French from France made you sound more educated and eloquent, well to me that's just BS, I've even heard people saying that French from Quebec is not even real French.
A language will always be spoken differently depending on your geographical region, French from France is different from French from Quebec, same goes for Spanish in Spain and Spanish in Latin America, English in the UK and English in North America, etc etc. They're just regional differences that add to the diversity of the language and make it even more interesting, but I do agree that Quebec French should be taught in well.. duhh, Quebec.
