Been wanting to make this one for awhile... the bizarre Montreal connection to the Abraham Lincoln assassination

Wait until you hear about the Honolulu Rail Transit project! Similar to the REM, light metro with platform screen doors: 21 stations, 32km. The project was proposed in 2006 at USD$4 billion and broke ground in February 2011. Multiple delays and cost overruns, finally announced just a few weeks ago Phase I is planned to open in July 2023. Phase II is aiming for March 2031 (!!) As of the most recent estimate in 2021, the cost has exploded to USD$12.4 billion. Rumours the bill will rise a further $3 billion by the end of the year, and will likely continue to rise until completion. Oh and the best part? Even though it's automated, headways will be 10 minutes and NO SERVICE after 7pm. Take the bus after 19h according to the transit commission. For all its problems, the REM is a miracle.
