  2. You should keep up to date, at this point the only serious bidders are Bombardier/Alstrom and CAF. Both of these groups have a rubber wheel design. And while i understand your frustration about how long this is taking, the delay WILL reduce costs. Bombardier portrays itself as Quebec's company, but paying more with them will not necessarily be better for us taxpayers. Given their global nature and Alstrom's involvement, i will honestly be surprised if that bid had substantially more than 60% Quebec made. So i'm cheering for CAF, at worst it will make B/A come back with a better bid.

    Quartier Central | Brossard

I don't disagree, but its still greenfield development. I'm really looking forward to more brownfield developments in Brossards "core" such as the new office tower opposite Panama. Given the fact that Taschereau is the spine for the majority of the city densification there should a priority.
  4. But you should also consider the recent report by a british group that concluded that the Montreal Metro is one of the most reliable in the world. Obviously in absolute terms there are more stoppages, but given the circumstances its doing quite well.

    Quartier Central | Brossard

REALLY great idea. When i first saw the plan view i though it was more plateau/st-lambert style 2-3 story buildings, but the the idea for super high density is certainly food for though. I work in Dix30, where i bike multiple times a week, i use the Chevrier to go to school downtown and pass by as well as use Panama regularly so this idea really appeals to me. I had big hopes for Dix30, and they might be partially realized with the development of 2 large condo projects in and around the area (citedix30 and another across leduc from the Wal-Mart) But Dix30 is much too far from the Chevrier to be anything close to a TOD, and it never will be. It will always be completely auto dependent, which i think will doom it given higher energy costs. But with the reconstruction of the Champlain bridge and its probable dedicated BRT/LRT lanes Panama can certainly be a more developed area. In fact a report in the local paper came out recently stating that the bus terminal is much to small and badly designed for its current traffic, much less its future expected traffic. Given this i would not be surprised if the terminal undergoes a Longeuil metro style renovation, which may very well lead to something like your vision as property values rise as a result. Also Brossard has a larger vision of transforming the entirety of Taschereau with high volume transit and densification. Check out this story below from late last year. http://brossardeclair.canoe.ca/webapp/sitepages/content.asp?contentid=122181&id=885

    La LNH à Québec?

So basically as soon as a new arena is guaranteed (the interview suggest it does not even have to be built yet), Quebec will be first in line to grab the first expansion team to fall into bankruptcy. When moving teams around, does the conference matter? with the NHL currently having 15 teams per conference, surely everything would go more smoothly if a east coast team such as Atlanta moved, as opposed to a western team like phoenix. Basically im asking Would a phoenix bankruptcy necessarily mean a better chance for Winnipeg than for Quebec? and vice versa if atlanta/carolina/florida folds?
  8. And yet what do you know, Vancouver is consistently rated among the most livable cities in the world. And you know what other cities have atrocious traffic? Paris, Vienna, and pretty much every award winning european city. There are cities that have freeway like roads that you would find very appealing, the problem is they are in cities called Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, all places that score very low when it comes to livability and sustainability. Cars work on a different scale than Humans, and thus any city designed mainly for them seems like a wasteland the moment you step out of your car. Great cities are able to tame their cars, not become beholden to them.
