  1. Merci pour cela. J'espere qu'ils aient plus de chance en construirant une facilite que les Calgary Flames.
  2. Maybe I didn't get the memo or missed the announcement but I've yet to see/hear anyone throw their hat in the ring.lol Neither a lone investor nor a group of potential investors.
  3. There is still one important question. Who would have enough money to buy a baseball team for Montreal ($ 1.5b for the team and the stadium together)? Molson got tired of keeping the Habs. It would have to be a super-rich person.
  4. Mexico City and San Juan (Puerto Rico) are outside shots (according to inside sources)- politics There's still talk/rumours about the wall going up between the USA and Mexico and currency conversion hoopla (pesos aren't exchanged at a preferable rate). There's definitely enough of a fan base in those warm cities- but it's always politics in the way. Mexico/San Juan should be playing Toronto FC (but they can't get teams in that league [MLS] either).
  5. Possible scenario if Montreal and Vancouver got baseball teams (MTL/TOR and VAN/Seattle rivalries): Here’s how the four divisions could look in the American League: Baltimore Montreal Vancouver Texas Cleveland Toronto Seattle Houston Detroit NY Yankees Oakland Kansas City Chi White Sox Boston Anaheim Minnesota And four new divisions in the National League: Miami Philadelphia Colorado LA Dodgers Tampa Bay NY Mets St. Louis San Francisco Atlanta Pittsburgh Chi Cubs San Diego Washington Cincinnati Milwaukee Arizona
  6. 120 metres encore? Que c'est ennuyeux.
  9. You da man Rocco- excellent pic from an even more excellent angle.
  10. I found a 2017 (Forbes) ranking of the 30 MLB team values. http://www.sportingnews.com/ca/mlb/news/mlb-team-values-forbes-franchise-worth-yankees-red-sox-cubs-dodgers/1fwgc96hdtiew1k79j0423foxz A new team in Montreal would not only be worth more than the team in Tampa but would be ranked around number twelve (#12) of out 30 teams- between #11 Texas Rangers (Dallas-Fort Worth) @ $1.55 billion and the #12 Atlanta Braves (with brand new stadium opened: March 31, 2017) @ $1.5 billion. Side curiosity note (lol): the old Expos team (currently Washington Nationals) is worth more at #10 ($1.6 billion). The "other" Canadian team, the Blue Jays, would be worth LESS @ #16 ($1.3 billion). How 'bout that?
  11. Uh oh... I'm starting to become a little pessimistic. The price tag (stadium included) for the new Expos baseball club is going to be around $1.5 billion dollars. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/referendum-baseball-montreal-stadium-1.4071085
  12. At least one other person (Rocco) on this site didn't know the TDC2 and TDC3 would be twins. He thanked me for the "scoop". You [MartinMtl] wrote: You didn't really have to hear it from anyone to know that. Answer: But that's how I heard of it (from a colleague who called about getting a condo there). I did not read that anywhere (I'm not a clairvoyant either, lol). I thought all three TDC buildings where going to look different. You have waaaay more posts than me- you've been a member here longer, of course, and apparently are more informed on this project (TDC). At least to one other person thought what I posted was news. I see as many comments as revelations on the site. "Inside info" is always nice to hear.
  13. I heard that the TDC2 and the TDC3 will be twins the two being higher than the first one (TDC1). Couvertes en verre. Plus belles que la premiere aussi.
  14. Kinda like a tough call I guess. Both leagues are pretty balanced now. Fifteen teams in the AL, fifteen in the NL. Both leagues have East, Central, and West divisions with five teams in each division. I think Brewers switched from AL to NL. Either way, I can't see Tampa move out of the East to either Central or West unless they don't get a new stadium (relocation is another story) The rumour up until a couple years ago (when the Nats started winning) was that they might return to the Big O. Bury that.lol They currently lead the NL East at 87-54. If MTL gets another team both leagues, I think, would have to expand (a relocation isn't likely). What are the chances they would put 2 Canadian teams in the same league and division too? Just thinking out loud. BC baseball anyone? Retro fit the dome where the the Lions play.
  15. Oh....I hope your inside connections are right. Too far a drive to Boston to see baseball. If Montreal got another team it would prolly be in the National League again too.
  16. It ressembles that proposed Toronto tower called "The One" (which if built, will be over 300 metres tall). No...in NYC anything goes- they don't care if it blocks the view of the Statue of Liberty.lol
  17. Yeah- Calgary is looking at 30% commercial vacancy. Huge Brookfield Place Tower practically vacant since Cenovus decided to sublet. They've (Calgary) got lots of room for Amazon.
  20. Of course Toronto did not surpass Montreal in economic and commercial size and importance because of the height of its buildings alone- and that was not what I was suggesting. I was only pointing out (by including the link to the article) that a major private developer with a huge 15 year project for Montreal is encountering issues/hurdles that in that developer's opinion would frustrate any efforts by the developer to adapt and be flexible as the project unfolds. Some users on this site have opined that some of the Quad Windsor buildings might not even go up (if ever) within the 15 year construction period originally laid out. This, realistically is possible- but the reverse is also true with the REM and other developments that could occur in the next 15 years. Being flexible is the point. Going with the ebbs and flows. Riding with the supply and demand of the economy. Having restrictions that stifle/snuff out being able to adapt will cause the biggest builders (even using their own money) to either go elsewhere or not invest in an unfriendly business climate both of which should be avoided. Other reasons for Toronto eclipsing Montreal as the largest and most commercial city in Canada would of course be more appropriate in another forum on another subject lol
  21. I think that you "hit the nail on the head." The message from the city fathers in Montreal to developers (including private money) seems to be: take your business to (put your project in) Toronto with their twenty-five (25) proposed skyscrapers (1128-650 feet/344-198 metres) where the commercial vacancy is less than 5% if you want to build significant economy stimulating projects. We don't need your stimulus here in Montreal. See diagram with proposed Toronto buildings- all of which are taller than 1000 de la Gauchetiere: https://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?searchID=78444401 Just what is the message that Montreal is sending to Cadillac Fairview (who applied for a height increase for 750 Peel)? Veuillez lire l'article: http://affaires.lapresse.ca/economie/immobilier/201506/25/01-4880722-cadillac-fairview-veut-construire-plus-haut.php According to CF: "[They are] planning a huge $ 2 billion project around the Bell Center, [and they are] asking the City to increase the allowable height limits from 120 to 210 meters, failing which its investment capacity at short term will be "seriously affected." CF campaigned for the 210 meter zone to be extended even further south to Notre-Dame Street, and to the east, where the group wanted to erect a series of other skyscrapers. [CF] stressed the need to go even further. According to [CF], raising the 210 meter limit on such a small area could hamper CF projects over the next few years, hence the importance of expanding it. "Of course, [this] will seriously affect Cadillac Fairview's ability to respond to short-term investment opportunities," says [CF]. "If the 210-meter zone is already there, Cadillac Fairview will have the capacity to accommodate a major tenant who could come to his door tomorrow morning and have the tools to meet the needs of those future tenants. " Will maintaining the current 120-meter limit lead CF to "defer investment"? asked the OCPM President. "To your question, the answer is yes, it will seriously affect the capabilities of Cadillac Fairview," said [CF]. CF's plan includes at least six skyscrapers around the Bell Center, total investments of $ 2 billion over 15 years. The Tour des Canadiens and the Deloitte Tower are already under construction, while Phase 2 of the Tour des Canadiens is under preparation. The group also plans two buildings in Peel Street - offices and dwellings - the highest of which could reach 180 meters. For comparison, Place Ville Marie is 188 meters, while the 1000 De La Gauchetière, the highest skyscraper in the metropolis, is 205 meters. Sometimes vertical planning makes more sense than horizontal. Sometimes it's time to get with the times. Sometimes arcane rules restrict advancement. Montreal shouldn't lose out (staying in dinosaur mode) because other cities are more willing to accomodate big development. Up until the mid 80's, Montreal was bigger than Toronto- now the tables are turned. Montreal isn't shrinking though, Toronto grew up faster and passed Ville Marie.
  22. Il y avait 3 tours dans les plans originaux? Aussi haute que les premieres deux tours j'espere. Je ne voudrais pas voir quelque chose courte entre L'Avenue et Rocabella 2. Ca serait une gaspillage d'une opportunite.
