  1. The saga around the 440 goes way back, as someone offered up with a timeline and and emoji :-) improving flow of of motorized transportation will always be a necessity in these type of residential areas, where accessing public transit (bus, REM, other trains that change names every 6 months) implies a 5-7 km commute by driving to the nearest access point to public transit with adequate day-parking. If access/parking is not packaged with REM offering, the whole proposition is a half baked solution is not gonna fly. City politicians, bureaucrats and activists will blame then backward West Islanders and their culture of driving everywhere for lack of REM ridership. it is more to it than "build it and they will come" CPDQ should know better and put pressure on so called city planners.
  2. the so called "440 boulevard"(speaks volume about Montreal's ability to plan and execute some sort of infrastructure vision: 440 is a highway in Laval.. that would never reach West Island) is an integral part of the REM project and I am surprised that CDPQ is not imposing conditions on municipalities and the province itself when it comes to ensuring easy access to this new public transportion option. since is project is a business that needs to make money and recoup investment, ridership is key and just dropping stations on the map of West Island is not going to incentivize people to get on board at Kirkland, Fairview or Sources - if traffic conditions and access options don't make sense. talking about bike lanes and large side walks is total BS here. 6 months a year at minus 10-20 with the wind with snowbanks higher than people is the reality that for some reason a lot of people from Valerie P. to a lot of contributors to this blog chose to ignore. I hear a lot about "forcing people" to change habits and get on bikes... is this really a serious discussion? Or are actually responsible for the sorry state of the Great Montreal's infrastructure development by simply contributing to a simplistic and unproductive assessment of the real needs of Montrealers? no wonder wannabees like the last 3-4 mayors of Montreal are having a ball at running this great city into the ground.
  4. let's keep this simple. bringing immigrants to Canada and QC is ultimately a business decision in the long term, a humanitarian one in the (very) short term. French might help these newcomers feel at home in Montreal (not sure how many intend to settle in La Tuque), but it's not going to put food on the table unless there's economic growth in this province and new jobs available. for some reason, the efforts to impose French at all costs and all levels (down to small businesses and restaurants) appears to scare away business from coming to Montreal, not to mention the rest of the province, unless is a mining conglomerate... so, openess to business and job creation is the basis of successful integration of these newcomers
  5. well, it was a publicity stunt for an app (promoted by the City, I believe) to locate potholes and help the City track them and hopefully repair them. not sure how effective that app was
  10. le Peterson project is half baked and badly situated, is not contributing to the PdA skyline more than the UQAM building (used to project slide shows during events on its ugly walls ). imagine for a sec this shape rising above the wasteland between de Maisonneuve and beyond Sherbrooke. can we rejuvenate Montreal? (Absolute World / Marilyn Monroe Towers - Condo Project - Mississauga, ON)
