Or they'll see an amazing new artwork they weren't expecting. We have no idea what they're planning for summer 2020 yet but I agree, it's become a Montreal landmark, really sad to see it go.

RIP Georges Brossard. I immediately thought of this great bit he did years ago on Conan

The design for the bridge was unveiled FOUR years ago and two days out from cars rolling on it for the first time people are realizing it's not "iconic" enough 😓

And the sad thing is we're gonna lose that view

I'm positive it's tied to the New Expos Stadium, and they're just not yet ready to announce it. With yesterday's news about Tampa/Montreal from MLB, we may be hearing something soon..

I'm impatient too but this is going to be transformative for the area, let them plan it properly and get it right. I have a feeling we're getting two stations in Griffintown, the Bassin Peel one always seemed a little far south to properly serve the neighbourhood

I was there the other night and the steel walls at the back were lit up in different colours, the whole site is spectacular, very sophisticated. Can't wait to see it full of people

La Tour de la Banque Royale a quand même été l'édifice le plus haut au Canada durant cette époque!
Ce n'est effectivement pas un "supertall", mais ça demeure quand même un bel exploit.
Royal Bank was actually the tallest building in the British Empire, as was Sun Life when it was completed. During the 60s boom, Montreal had taller buildings than Chicago, which is considered the birthplace of the skyscraper.

I'll find you limitations with measuring unemployment rates - simply put, it doesn't translate to wealth creation and productivity. One thing it does show is that the Quebec labour market is too tight, and the CAQ's policies of limiting immigration will make it more challenging for companies to find skilled labour to fill vacancies.
You never disappoint

^^ Come on! We've had so much rain this spring the city flooded, same two years ago, how are we gonna host teams in the spring without a roof? We need a retractible roof!

My friend lives right next to the Bois-Franc station and he had never even heard of the REM; I told him it was under construction and he said the same thing: "I'll believe it when I see it"
I can't tell if it's just human nature, to always have your head in the sand and not be aware of anything until you actually see it in person, or if Montrealers are so beaten down with decades of infrastructure neglect and delays and constant construction that they aren't aware of the city's rebirth and how things have changed?

This obsession with expanding the REM to Chambly is an absolute joke. Enough!
I have faith CDP will come up with something great.

Excerpts from the 2015 article:
QuoteThe house at 1395 Overdale Ave. is a mess, its smashed windows boarded up, its walls covered in graffiti. It hasn’t been occupied since police evicted squatters in 2001.
But not all the damage is the work of 21st-century vandals. The pockmarks on the grey-stone façade are from a much earlier assault — 1849, when a rioting mob fired gunshots hoping to kill the mansion’s owner, Louis-Hippolyte LaFontaine.
--
But today it stands as a monument to neglect and time is running out before 1395 Overdale becomes the address of just another luxury condominium.
--
“The planning, the putting together of how Canada would become a democracy, took place to a great extent in that house,” Saul said in an interview.
Twice in 1849 it was attacked by anti-democratic forces that had burned the parliament building in Old Montreal, but the democrats resisted.
“Of all the buildings that are central to Canada becoming a democracy, it’s the only important one left,” Saul said.
Feels nice to save a piece of history.

Wow what a success! I did not expect such a transformation. 4 years ago this was the ugliest parking lot in the entire city, with a dilapidated historic site from the 19th century. Today, completely renovated with 3 towers behind it and a row of townhouses next to it. Wow!
