London Mayor planning a rethink on London congestion charging

The unpopular western extension of London’s congestion charging zone could be axed under new plans by Mayor Boris Johnson. The £123million scheme was introduced despite mass public opposition last year but now Johnson plans to launch a public consultation.

The Mayor also ruled out extending the charge into the capital’s suburbs and admitted the controversial extension could be dropped just 18 months after it was introduced. Johnson has signalled that he doesn’t believe congestion tolls are the solution and wants to find other ways to encourage people to walk or cycle.

The extended zone covers Kensington and Chelsea and the consultation will be open to residents, businesses and stakeholders across the capital. Johnson accused his predecessor Ken Livingstone of not listening to people’s concerns when he introduced the extension in February last year.

‘I am not going to be having any more congestion charges,’ he said. ‘What I am determined to make happen is a modal shift towards bicycling and walking, not just in inner London but also in outer London.’

The western extension, which cost £96m to implement, could be removed by the end of next year, reducing the charging zone to a central area stretching from Buckingham Palace to Tower Bridge.

J'espère que la 5D mk2 viendra avec toutes les features de la 700D et encore plus! Ces features là sont très intéressants! Pour moi par exemple, ça serait intéressant l'espèce de gyromètre qui me permettrait dans le noir de savoir si je suis a niveau. (dans le noir, avec peu de repères, c'est vraiment pas évident).

Le killer feature serait un prix plus bas que la 700D, quoi que 4000$ n'est pas la fin du monde.

Bon une grue est réapparue sur le site pour le 3ième et dernière phase!

Ah oui, la ligue national se dirigera encore dans la marde... qu'est ce qu'il va arriver si le plafond doit diminuer??

Vraiment dommage pour Streit, Ryder m'en fou, il faisait rien depuis trop longtemps.

Tu peux aussi utiliser les lentilles anciennes de Canon. Les lentilles de Tamron et Sigma et autres sont de seconde zone. Elles offrent une bonne performance pour le prix payé, mais ne performent pas comme Nikon ou Canon.

Les lentilles Canon sont imbatables comparés à celles de nikon, il suffit de voir les reviews de plusieurs sites spécialisés pour le voir.

Vrai que Nikon viens tout juste de ratrapper Canon pour la qualité des senseurs (bruits, grosseurs), mais qu'est ce qui nous dit que Canon je réserve pas une surprise à Nikon

Hier Nikon a dévoilé une caméra full frame avec 12.8 megapixel a un prix de 4000$, ce que Canon a fait avec la 5D il y a exactement 3 ans!!! C'est pas peu dire, 3 ans!!!

Reste que le meilleur benchmark est de voir sur les plates bandes des terrains de footballs ou dans n'importe quels sport la couleur des lentilles pour voir à quel point Canon domine tous les autres.

La ville marie est une réussite, oui on a détruit des taudis dans l'est, mais on a une grande autoroute en plein milieu de la ville en tunnel. Les villes du monde entier rêvent d'avoir ça... et là on s'aprête a le recouvrir dans presque toute sa longueur.

Ou est l'erreur?

C'est Canon qui a inventé l'entrée de gamme dans les SLR avec la rebel... sauf que là ses concurents ont abaissés la gamme encore plus. Canon se retrouve donc "au dessus" de la gamme... ugh.

Bon, il y a la canon 1000D qui va combler ça maintentn a un prix concurentiel. J'attendrais pour cette Canon si j'étais toi. Rien ne bat l'éventail d'accesoires et lentilles que Canon a, sans compter une qualité d'image exceptionelle.

J'ai vu ça samedi soir, j'ai complètement oublié de l'écrire ici!

Hunt: Longue Vie a MONTRÉAL!

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For those of you who have had the distinct pleasure of attending the Montreal Formula One Grand Prix, I think you would agree that the experience can be summed up in two words: unbelievably spectacular! The cars, the people, the food (the nightlife!) and the overall scene are simply amazing. In my opinion, wherever you combine European Culture and the world's most advanced race cars good things happen. For those of you who have never attended this event, but have even .001% interest in Motorsports, I highly recommend making it a top priority.

For the past three years I have been going with a large group of friends and family to watch this amazing event- a.k.a "paying homage to the Motorsports Gods." Normally, going to a racetrack as a spectator is torture for any driver. This is the one time every year where I am ecstatic about being a spectator, plastering myself to the fence like a Gumby magnet on the side of a refrigerator!

My favorite part of the entire weekend for the last three years has happened on Friday morning. The day always starts the same: we cram onto the subway train with hordes of rabid Formula One fans- all wearing their Ferrari and BMW gear, and reeking of booze. The train arrives and the ravenous hordes disperse quickly as they head for their favorite spots.

We navigate the crowd as efficiently as a blind squirrel searching for a nut in the hopes of placing ourselves one human closer to our ceremonial 1st viewing spot. As we continue to bob and weave through the human traffic jam, it happens. I hear a sound in the distance; getting closer, and closer.

My skin begins to tingle. Every hair on my body stands up. I can see it now, and what a sight to behold! I'm staring at 19,000 rpms of controlled chaos packed into one of the most impressive examples of human engineering that exists on this planet; and it's headed right for me. I grasp the fence and brace myself for a delightfully defining experience as the first car blows past me at about 150 mph (that's around 241 kph for our European friends). I can feel that big uncontrollable grin spread across my entire face.

I'm in heaven.

Coming back to earth, however, the rational part of my brain starts reminding me that I'm here for another reason as well. I'm working to become a professional driver now and it's time for business.

While at the track I had the distinct pleasure of being introduced to a friend from SPEED Canada. Believe me when I tell you, I could not have asked for a better host: not only does he know the sport inside and out, but he also knows all the right people. As I have learned recently, business is not just about what you know, it's who you know.

Through my friend from SPEED I was introduced to the Vice President of Pole Position Magazine, a very popular French Canadian Motorsports magazine. They were kind enough to interview me for a feature article that will be published in next month's (July) issue. Aside from the successful business aspect of the trip-and the Friday highlight-I was ecstatic about my team, BMW Sauber, finishing 1st and 2nd. Robert, Nick and the entire crew really did a terrific job. Great work guys!

As a result the weekend was a dual success on both the James Hunt Racing, LLC side AND on the BMW of North America employee side. Talk about a win-win! The 1st place finish marked Robert Kubica's, as well as our relatively new team's first F1 victory (of many more, I am sure).

Waldorf eyes luxury hotel in Montreal

The Waldorf-Astoria Collection, a luxury brand of Hilton Hotels Corp. that hopes to build a hotel in Sarasota to open in 2010, has reached an agreement for a similar Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Montreal.

Sarasota's 225-room Waldorf would be part of the Proscenium, a $1 billion project slated to include more than 200 residences; 300,000 square feet of Class A office space; 130,000 square feet of retail space; an 800-seat Nederlander Worldwide performing arts hall; a 500-seat art movie theater; and some 2,000 parking spaces.

The deal in Montreal with Monit Investments -- the brand's first in Canada -- is to include a 250-room hotel and 76 condominiums. The 32-story Waldorf-Astoria Montreal will feature 15,000 square feet of ballroom and meeting space, signature restaurants, bars and a luxury spa and fitness center.

The project is expected to be completed in 2011.

The 55-year-old Monit, based in Montreal, describes itself as "a highly diversified company with expertise in all facets of real estate," including development, investment, construction and operations.

The company said it has commercial, industrial and retail properties in Quebec and in the United States.

Le maire de Montréal, Gérald Tremblay, a déclaré hier qu'il n'est pas question de s'en prendre aux résidants des banlieues en leur compliquant l'accès au pont Jacques-Cartier.

M. Tremblay réagissait ainsi au projet du maire de l'arrondissement Ville-Marie, M. Benoit Labonté, d'interdire l'accès au pont Jacques-Cartier aux automobilistes qui roulent dans la rue Ontario.

«La Ville de Montréal ne ciblera jamais les banlieusards qui viennent travailler et investir à Montréal», a lancé le maire Tremblay, hier, en promettant de se pencher sur le projet de l'arrondissement Ville-Marie.

Par ailleurs, les autorités ont fait savoir qu'afin d'alléger la congestion pour les travailleurs de banlieue qui empruntent le pont Jacques-Cartier, une seconde voie permettant de tourner sur Papineau pourrait être ajoutée sous peu sur le boulevard René-Lévesque.

Cette mesure est présentement à l'étude avec le Service de police de la Ville de Montréal, a indiqué hier le maire de l'arrondissement de Ville-Marie, Benoit Labonté.

L'arrondissement envisage de rendre permanente l'interdiction de tourner à gauche rue Ontario sur Papineau, et songe à interdire le virage à droite en provenance du centre-ville, ce qui pourrait multiplier les bouchons à l'approche du pont.

M. Labonté a précisé que les automobilistes se dirigeant vers la Rive-Sud pourraient être détournés vers René-Lévesque.

«On n'écarte aucun scénario», a-t-il déclaré.

Malek, il va falloir s'attendre a dépenser encore plus d'argent en santé dans les 10-15-20 prochaines années. Les Baby Boomers s'en viennent vieux et ils auront besoins de plus en plus de services pour la santé.

Ça fait 10 ans qu'on nous dit ça, et jusqu'a maintenant l'économie croit plus rapidement en % que les dépenses de santé en chiffres avant inflation... Je suis pas trop inquiet jusqu'a maintenant.

Ça prend une réforme du code du travail et du syndicalisme en général.

Très bonne initiative... c'était ridicule de fermet à 17h avec la quantité de gens là.

Je crois qu'avant de penser à mettre de l'argent sur la dette, il faudra régler nos problèmes d'infrastructures parceque eux faut les remplacer et oui, s'endetter pour le faire.

Le système de santé et éducation, je suis tanné d'en entendre parler, c'est de l'argent qui va dans un trou noir, y a pas de limite à ce qui peut être mis dedans.
