If you read the article its not the bridge's design that caused the costs to go up.

• CONSTRUCTION

Récemment, les équipes des travaux marins de l’approche ouest ont effectué l’installation des cinq poutres-caissons entre les piliers W03 et W02, reliant, pour la première fois, la culée ouest de L’Île-des-Sœurs au pont à haubans dans le secteur de la Voie maritime.

Les travaux de levage sur le fleuve St-Laurent, étalés sur une période de treize mois, ont été très exigeants en raison du fort courant, du peu de tirant d’eau et du vent.  La fin de l’installation des poutres-caissons sur l’eau  se veut donc l’aboutissement d’un travail acharné et exceptionnel de la part de toutes les équipes.

Cette étape cruciale annonce aussi la fin prochaine de l’installation des poutres-caissons sur la portion terrestre  de l’approche ouest.

To facilitate construction on the new Réseau express métropolitain (REM) station, 500 out of 1,500 spots were closed at the Panama terminal parking lot last week. A further 30 spaces will also be closed later this year.

But several drivers were caught by surprise when the 500 spaces disappeared. Many who parked at a strip mall across the street had their cars towed. That space is now closed and reserved just for clients.

But 350 places are now available nearby.

“Right now there’s some parking space at Loblaw’s that are available and we invite users to take them,” explains Lacroix, referring to the parking lot of a closed Loblaw’s supermarket across the street from the terminal. But it fills up quickly.

“See, I just arrived and already there’s no place here,” driver Jessica Joseph tells Global News, explaining that when she arrived Thursday, there were so many cars, some were parked on a median separating the parking lanes.

Because of the lack of space, others are forcing several drivers, like Paul Richard, to park several blocks away.

“The closest residential area where you might be able to park,” he says, “would take at least 10 minutes to walk!”

The REM is working to find other parking spaces.

In the meantime, authorities are encouraging people to use public transport to get to the terminus whenever possible.

People just like to over whine about everything. I went to panama last friday at 8 am and there was plenty of parking at the old loblaws. Most people park at panama for no reason all the buses go straight to Bonaventure anyways in the morning.

It dépends on the float they have for each activity. If they finish installing the tablier everywhere and the structure portion over the voie maritime is stil not completely erected then that activity will be on the critical path. At the moment I dont believe thats what pushing the Schedule, but the tablier will certainly become the main activity on the critical path.

C'est pourquoi il y aura une ouverture partielle/politique à la fin de l'année même si c'est juste une voie dans une direction

I was a construction planner for SNC Lavalin for many years on many of their billion dollar projects. I dont believe it will be complete by end of the year. If it is i'll be extremely happy. Best case scenario there will be a partial opening of the bridge.

Journalists should take ariel drone footage and other youtube footage and send it to many different structural engineering firms and ask for their opinion on whether or not this bridge will be completed by the end of the year. That would help the publics opinion on the matter.

How the hell are they suppossed to finish everything in 4 months. It will be done next summer. Pont IDS is not even finished yet.

Nice building but cant say anything spectacular about it... maybe compared to griffintown
