Oui c'est le parc William-Ottawa dans le PPU de Griffintown. Cependant le terrain restait à acquérir lors du PPU car il avait une petite étoile, mais l'étoile est disparue de la dernière carte, ce qui semble indiquer qu'ils ont fini d'acquérir les terrains pour ce parc. Je l'espère en tout cas, on va bien avoir la réponse à la consultation jeudi prochain. Je vais y être (comme Synosik), car je déménage finalement à Montréal en fin de semaine.

Seriously though, if the work ethic of the average office/middle management worker was to come under a level of scrutiny comparable to that usually applied to "les cols bleus", I don't think you'd see much of a distinction. Je parle du DESIGN man. C'est pas pcq le privé paye que ça fait que c'est plus mieux et pluss beau qu'un projet financé public et qui fait autre chose qu'une boîte carrée. Je suis bien content que la tour des canadiens soit construite, mais si quelqu'un dit que le projet du MBAM est une médiocrité architecturale, la Tour Canadiens est quoi côté originalité? Pas jouissif pantoute.

I don't mean to get into a pissing match and hijack the thread, but I just don't think a condo tower financed by the private sector and a cultural building financed by the provincial government should be evaluated architecturally as equivalent. Obviously, the proposed pavilion is more interesting than the Tour des Canadiens - but it doesn't have to be profitable either! Public-funded architecture should be held to a higher standard - it's an opportunity for TRUE audacity. That standard should be even higher when a project entails losing some of our built heritage.

Taste is subjective, but I don't see this building as audacious. How many hundreds of buildings already have the haphazard fenestration effect - in Montreal alone?

As for the possibilities of marrying exciting modern architecture with the preservation of built heritage (of which acpnc - whose posts I enjoy greatly and whose opinions I respect a great deal - seems to be uncharacteristically dismissive), we can look to the Mount Stephen Club a stone's throw away, which, in my opinion, is much more interesting and surprising in its use of a textile-like cladding.

Une médiocrité? La Tour des Canadiens c'est quoi alors? Ou la plupart des projets de Griffintown?

True. But it's not an empty lot. It's a cultural institution tearing down the city's built heritage for what is (in my opinion) a somewhat generic building - if you saw it in New York, or Rotterdam, or anywhere in the western world, would you look twice? - on a street that's already lost half of its historic charm and half its streetlife thanks to the hulking, windowless Hall Building across the street. I just don't think that some forms that have been torqued around on Autocad with haphazard glazing (Je pense à la tôle ondulée du CRCHUM) are inherently great replacements for two quintessential golden square mile victorians. Maybe I'm cranky, but that's my two cents.

I really don't mean to be a party-pooper, but it's disheartening to see the MBAM go from the wonderful Claire and Marc Bougie Pavilion (with the Erskine and American Church integrated beautifully) to this mediocrity - all the while destroying two greystones, both seemingly with perfectly good bones, and which offset the drab modernity of the Hall Building across the street. I don't know if it's because the province is footing the bill, but it's discouraging.

Yes, but, if I am reading pages 127-128 of Ville-Marie bureau d’arrondissement Agenda for April 9th correctly, the approval would have been subject to these conditions:

- Conserver in situ la façade avant du bâtiment ou démanteler, numéroter et réassembler les éléments de maçonnerie de la façade originale de 1870 du bâtiment portant les numéros municipaux 1206-1208, rue Drummond; restaurer ces éléments, reconstituer ceux manquants (pierre calcaire bossagée du soubassement), le tout à être réintégré au basilaire proposé du projet de remplacement, selon le respect de la volumétrie existante et avec l’objectif d’en maintenir la perceptibilité à l’échelle de la rue, et fournir un devis descriptif détaillé complet de ces travaux;

- Fournir, dans le cadre de l’approbation de la démolition du bâtiment existant, une garantie monétaire visant à assurer la réalisation du projet de remplacement et la réintégration des éléments de maçonnerie de la façade originale de 1870;

- Assurer le respect des paramètres suivants pour le projet de remplacement :

- La hauteur du basilaire doit être substantiellement conforme à celle de la façade du bâtiment à démolir;

- Le bâtiment peut atteindre une hauteur égale ou inférieure à une surhauteur maximale de 65 m hors tout, si son plan de façade présente un retrait minimal de 1,5 m pour la portion située au-delà du basilaire

sur au moins sur la largeur et l’emplacement de la façade du bâtiment à démolir;

- L’alignement de construction de la partie de façade du basilaire correspondant à celle du bâtiment à démolir doit être identique à celui existant;

- Un mur arrière non érigé sur la limite arrière du terrain peut être implanté à une distance égale ou inférieure à la marge arrière de 4 m;

- Un avant-corps de type « tambour » et le cadre d’un balcon en loggia peuvent être en saillie d’au plus 2,5 m du plan de façade le plus rapproché de la voie publique;

- Une aire de stationnement accessible par ascenseur pour véhicules, prévoyant une aire de circulation réduite et un système de superposition de véhicules, de dimensions suffisantes pour la fonctionnalité des lieux, est autorisée à la condition que le stationnement de véhicule ne s’effectue qu’exclusivement dans les supports appropriés, chacune des unités ainsi aménagées correspondant à celles exigées par les dispositions du chapitre II du titre VI;

- Soumettre le projet à une révision architecturale prévue au titre VIII du Règlement d’urbanisme de l’arrondissement de Ville-Marie (01-282), en ajoutant les critères

suivants :

 

- Assurer une saillie suffisante pour le cadre proposé du balcon en loggia sur la partie sud de la façade Drummond du basilaire afin de maintenir l’apparence de la proposition originalement soumise pour ce projet;

 

- Évaluer la possibilité de réemployer le garde-corps couronnant le tambour au sein du projet de remplacement et, le cas échéant, restaurer cet élément;

 

- Favoriser une qualité architecturale supérieure pour la tour compte tenu de l’emplacement au cœur du Centre des affaires;
