Hmm, I have to say the "new Berlin" is a very special place right now and it's the first time that I as a German can wholeheartedly tell someone from another part of the world: Come to Germany, come to Berlin: It rocks!
But yeah, the city is broke (and that's part of the magic since everyone has to improvise. Germans improvising! Now THAT'S a refreshing new concept) and there are no jobs in sight. That is, if your's not happen to be a waiter, DJ or politician.
Good to hear though, that the economy in Montreal is on the rise, since I'll go looking for a job there soon as well. But still I see a lot more job offerings for IT jobs in Toronto and I heard in Alberta everyone who can turn a screwdriver is well come.
But from my point of view it's ideal to have an "okay" economy, while still having the relatively low rents and occasional abandoned factory that create a rich subculture. That's how I see Montreal right now. And building a new museum is one thing but having a vibrant artistic scene is another.
Montreal can deliver on both and it's future will be really bright, if it plays it's cards right!
