Y aurait-il de la place pour les francophones dans cette cité état de Montréal ? Avec une représentation dans la population qui doit être sous les 45% est beaucoup d'angry anglophones, si Montréal devient une cité état, j'ai bien peur que ce soit pay back time pour les gens du west island So much hate... so much hate...

Pay back time? Etes vous en train de reconnaître qu'il y a eu des abus à leur égard? Ou bien que le sentiment de second-class citizen est une fabrication de leur part ?

Geez, it seems like we have better (longer) "warm season" and better (shorter) "cold season", WTF?

 

I agree with you that in the middle of winter (mid-January), it's on average 4 degrees colder in daily average than in Toronto. But for most of the rest of the time, it's basically the same.

I will add that in addition to the warm and cold periods being more or less equivalent in length, Montreal is mostly spared those awful winter days where the weather teeters around 0c resulting in the slush inducing, face-stabbing cold rain episodes where, regardless of how you dress, you're going to have a bad time. Otoh, Toronto doesn't have to deal with brutal snowstorms as consistently as Montreal.

Dommage que cet immeuble soit laid. Il a une forme vraiment intéressante; très angulaire. Hélas, c'est une logement pour personnes à faibles revenus - probablement pas de réfection en vu.

Je suis passé la semaine dernière voir ou ils en étaient rendus dans les travaux. Finalement, j'ai carrément accédé au chantier - voila l'histoire derrière cette photo

Il y a des videos sur cette bretelle sur Youtube. Je soupçonne qu'il n'y a pas beaucoup de grand parking à ciel ouvert dans cette ville.

I know someone who lives in that part of PSC (south of the tracks). He's a tattoo artist so local thugs don't really fuck with him, but I wouldn't move in with some kids.

 

Across from his rather nice and pricy condo, the whole building is owned by drug dealers. I know it's up and coming and all that, but I'd still avoid the area for some time.

 

That said, this is an unbelievable awesome action by these people and I hope it does work out.

I live there now. The impression I get so far is that it is by and large safer than the following neighborhoods (which I've also spent lots of time in): ville-marie, Hochelaga-maisonneuve, Verdun, Lachine, Lasalle, NDG, Montréal-Nord, Saint-Léonard, RDP.

Don't get me wrong; it's uglier, more miserable and less commercially evolved than most of the above-mentioned neighborhoods. It just isn't dangerous. This has been my sentiment so far.

I mean, the fact thugs are not fucking with your friend cause he's a tatoo artist speaks volumes about just how harmless they are.

The difference between point-saint-charles and other gentrifying neighborhoods is that the point is tiny. Less than 10,000 people live there, and that's something like 30% more than 10 years ago. The entire Sud-ouest has 70,000 inhabitants. Hochelaga on the other hand has 100,000 +

I say toss in 1,000 more yuppies (see Nordelec project) and most of the heavy lifting will be done - by the time the CN project materializes the neighborhood will already be quite different.

As far as this particular project goes... FINGERS CROSSED, cause I live right in front of those lands !

Hier j'ai eu l'occasion de faire une petite tournée de Pointe-Saint-Charles avec mon appareil photo . En voici les résultats:

Canadian tire is in serious need of rebranding... The first thought the comes to mind when I think of that company is my grandpa; he used to keep his canadian tire money in the glove compartment of his car.

It's not an inherently bad store either... lots of good stuff there.

J'espère que ceci est le bon fil...

Je travaille au coin des rues Saint-Pierre et D'Youville. J'ai remarquer qu'ils ont ENFIN commencer des travaux sur le terrain inusité qui était devant mon bureau. Je me demandais pourquoi il n'avait jamais servi à quoi que ce soit - je pense avoir compris maintenant

Bref, le terrain se situe entre les rues McGill et Saint-Pierre au nord de la rue D'Youville. Les travaux ont commencé - étrangement - durant les vacances de construction. Aujourd'hui j'ai enfin eu la chance d'examiner le chantier d'un peu plus près; il s'agit d'une fouille archéologique et (je présume) le début d'une nouvelle phase du Musée Pointe-à-Callières !

Certains membres du forum étaient peut-être déja au courant, mais pour moi c'était une belle surprise. Voici quelques photos prises ce matin:

Soit c'est une faute de frappe - soit un projet bien en retard. (Les deux scénarios sont très plausibles ha-ha)

Never been on the Cartier Bridge before. Perhaps my perspective is clouded by the fact that my arrival on the bridge completes a long trek through the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont. Perhaps that adds to the "drama" of arriving.

It is indeed a very epic conclusion to what I consider to be a fantastic drive. The transition from the green mountains into the saint-lawrence lowlands is interesing in and of itself - the vast flatlands, dotted by a handful of random hills visible from afar give a kind of martian quality to the ''Montérégie'' area that provides a stark contrast with the almost cartoonish beauty of Vermont. And the ''oceanic'' vibe you get upon entering the Champlain bridge is (i would assume) quite unexpected and awe-inspiring for first-time travellers to the area.

here's a dashcam video I grabbed a few months ago - depicting that ''epic'' feel.

Je viens de passer un après-midi sur le toit de mon ami qui est dans le Lowney 34 (3 ou 4?). C'est un peu surréaliste car depuis le toit on voit les toits de tout les autres Lowney - tous équipés d'une piscine et tous pleine de personnes ! On se sent effectivement ''on top of the world'' et la sensation est agréable... mais WOW c'était tellement plein de gens. Je n'ai pas trouver ça particulièrement reposant et la piscine est petite, mais ça fait quand même la job. Les gens qui aiment socialiser avec leurs voisins et rencontrer des poulettes devront adorer ce type de set-up.

Looks very 'safe' so far. Not going to blow anyone's socks off. On the flip side, it will age a bit more gracefully than Altitude imo.

Je déteste ce machin. Ça serait déja mieux s'ils enleveraient le pseudo-grillage, avec un nouveau paint job.

J'adore la rue McGill, c'est tellement grandiose. Les edifices sont superbes, et la vue qu'on aura du Altoria sera geniale!

+1 ! Et croire que cette rue n'offrait rien de trop spécial il y a moins de 10 ans.
