Great news for Quebec! We definitely need a tea party type movement here to get the high spenders, high taxers, and mega wasters out of office. At least here, opponents can't falsely claim racism... :-) they'll have to look for other insults that distract from the real issues.

J'ai l'impression que la petite section entre la 15 et la 30 existante sera pas ouverte cette automne par contre. Je suis passé il y a quelques semaines sur le boulevard Jean Leman à Candiac et j'ai remarqué une maison, au coin de Jean Leman et le Rang St-André en train d'être démonté pièce par pièce. La maison est en plein centre de la future autoroute et il semblait pas avoir grand chose de fait en arrière de la maison non plus. En plus, les viaducs en construction pour joindre la nouvelle 30 à la 30 existante sont encore en construction... Cette section sera surement seulement prête l'an prochain.

Bon, l'éco-terrorisme deviens une réalité au Canada.

Oursnoir est-ce que tu peux expliquer que c'est cher de faire un "échangeur" de contournement temporaire qu'il faudra démolir après? Sans compter que entre 2010 et 2022, il y a 12 ans ou l'inflation viens gruger une grande partie de ces 6 milliards?

Faut pas oublier que les estimations de coût du gouvernement sont toujours sous les coût réel qui sont parfois 50% de plus. Rendu à 9 milliard, ça serait presque le coût du Big Dig qui était aussi largement sous-estimé, mais au moins il en ont beaucoup plus pour leur argent (biensur dévaluer par quelques années mais quand même)...

euh c'est pas les big shots de ces corporations qui vont être fâchés, c'est les fermiers qui possèdent des quotas qui valent des millions (et qui vaudront plus rien).

 

Au contraire, les compagnies pourront vendre leur produit à un prix plus abordable puisqu'ils ne seront plus obligés de respecter un prix "minimum garantie"... sans compter qu'ils ne se feront plus chier à exporter leur produits fini.

Peut-être... Mais je pense que les fermiers seraient peut-être content aussi. Toute le lait qui flush dans l'égoût est un énorme gaspillage et pourrait être vendu si ce n'était pas pour les maudits quotas. Ça leur donnerait des opportunités de grandir leurs opérations.

Non et non, il faut que la ville foute la paix aux commerces existants et aux immeubles déjà utilisés existants... qu'elle se concentre sur les terrains vagues.

 

Alors non, la ville devrait avoir que seule stratégie de foutre la paix à ceux qui font déjà des affaires et d'en attirer des nouveaux en développant les terrains vacants ou immeubles abandonnés... laissez donc faire l'interventionnisme, ça marche pas à Montréal.

Désolant ton témoignage, s'il n'y avait pas de syndicat il y a longtemps que les conditions de travail auraient reculé de 50 ans dans la plupart des secteurs. Et en dépit de leur présence elles reculent malgré tout parce que les employeurs multiplient les procédures pour justement noyer les syndicats en griefs et poursuites de tous genres.

 

Ce sont les syndicats qui négocient pour les employés et qui s'assurent que tous sont traités justement, tout en les protégeant des patrons abusifs qui ne respectent pas les conventions collectives dûment signées.

 

De l'autre côté combien de chef d'entreprise s'autorisent des salaires démesurés qui continuent de monter avec les années, on a qu'à regarder le secteur des banques notamment et bien d'autres secteurs de l'entreprise privée.

 

L'exemple d'Air Canada est des plus pertinents, pendant que la compagnie déclarait faillite en 2004, et qu'elle coupait les salaires, avantages sociaux, vacances etc. les hauts dirigeants sont presque tous devenus multi-millionnaires dans le processus par des options d'achats d'actions qu'ils se sont eux-mêmes voté.

 

5 ans plus tard et suite à une minuscule augmentation salariale de moins de 2% pour les employés, coup de théâtre, le même président vide la caisse en rémunérant les actionnaires (dont ils fait partie avec la haute direction pour des centaines de milliers d'actions) de ses $800 millions de "cash flow" qui garantissait la survie de la compagnie et cela tout juste avant la récession. Résultat: une autre quasi-faillite et gel des salaires pour deux ans.

 

Le salaire de tous les employés d'Air Canada, sauf la haute direction, est aujourd'hui nettement plus bas qu'il y a 6 ans, la caisse de retraite dans laquelle la compagnie a pigé a elle aussi perdu beaucoup de fonds et si ce n'était de nos syndicats qui ont lutté férocement nous serions dans une situation encore pire qu'avant.

 

Et le cas d'Air Canada est loin d'être unique, alors avant de défendre certains capitalistes qui n'ont rien à foutre de leur capital humain, je te dis de bien t'informer pour pouvoir avoir un discours plus nuancé et surtout plus juste de la situation.

Moi aussi j'ai travaillé plusieurs années dans un milieu syndical et c'était l'enfer. Je n'avais aucune manière de monter dans la hierarchie et non plus en terme de salaire (par rapport aux autres) à cause des règles d'équité. Je travaillais comme un fou, je faisait beaucoup plus d'heure (non-payé), je mettais beaucoup d'effort et j'étais facilement 10 fois plus productif dans les mêmes heures. Équité, mon cul! Quel genre d'équité est-ce que c'est ça? Une vraie équité m'aurait value une prime pour mes efforts plus élevé, ça c'est de la justice. Tu fous rien à journer longue, tu recois rien. Tu travaille fort et intélligemment, tu reçois en conséquence. Et comme je ne recevais pas en conséquence de mes efforts, je suis parti. C'est pour ça qu'il n'y a pas beaucoup de monde talentueux dans la fonction publique, parce qu'ils finissent tous, tôt ou tard, à comprendre qu'il se font avoir.

Pour ton argument des patrons chez Air Canada (ou peu importe quel compagnie), il n'y a personne ici surement qui dirait qu'ils n'ont pas fait erreur dans l'histoire que tu racontes. Je ne connais pas l'histoire spécifique d'Air Canada mais peu importe, des dirigeant qui font des mauvais coups ne donne pas la voie libre pour que la mafia syndicale fasse des mauvais coups aussi. Tu peux pas dire, et bien la direction fait quelque chose d'illégal donc je vais faire quelque chose d'illégal, c'est illogique et immature.

Et puis depuis quand qu'on n'est toute une gang de moumoune qui se laisse faire par des patrons abusifs? Écoutes, fais ta job et fais la bien et les choses vont bien aller pour toi. Si tu fais ça et que ça va quand même mal, et bien vote avec tes pieds et sac ton camp et va chez le compétiteur. Si t'es un bon travailleur honnête et productif, tu n'auras pas de problème a te trouver une job ou le patron va t'aprrécier et te payer en conséquence. Prends tes responsabilités et défend toi toi-même. S'il n'avait pas de syndicat, il y aurait beaucoup de conflit et de froideur entre la direction et les syndiqués, tout le monde serait plus productif et plus motivé et valorisé. Et en plus, tout le monde serait plus riche, pas juste les dirigeants.

Ouais... mais c'est pas juste aux États-Unis. L'effet Obama se resent aussi sur la rive-sud de Montréal. L'autre jours, je voulais tuer mon voisin, mais finalement, j'ai penser à mon seigneur Obama, le messie du monde entier, et tout d'un coup, j'ai vu des anges qui sont apparu devant moi et il m'ont gentillement demander de me calmer. Ils m'ont démontrer comment le monde est soudainement meilleur depuis qu'Obama est au pouvoir, il n'y a plus de guerre, plus de terroriste, plus d'injustice, et il nous reste plus d'argent non plus.

Might i remind you this forum is called "MTLURB" - the urb being a reference to the word urban. I've been here long enough to know that the majority of people around here are pro-urban and pro-city. If you like sprawling low-density developments, that's fine with you. Most of us prefer highrises and high density. Fact.

Actually, I prefer high-density developments, but to me, it's not an ideology. I find dense, mixed-use, tall, and complex developments really interesting. I love it when it's connected to underground pedestrian tunnels as well as metro stations. But, if you ask me what's more practical in my busy life, if I need to go to Future Shop, I have no interest in going to the Pepsi forum one where I have to find a parking spot, pay for it, walk to the building, walk up two stories, get my stuff and go back. I prefer going to a dix30 type future shop where I park 100ft from the door, walk in and get my stuff and am out of there. It's much more practical.

Furthermore, you mistakenly allude to a connection between urban planning and the denial of the free market. Urban planning is a form of regulation. Planning is designed to optimize space and create cities that are more livable. If the demand is there for ultra-spread-out low density development, so be it, let there be some. There is no denial... but it ought to be zoned in more strategic areas, so in essence, regulated. Which is what urban planning is. And thank god for it, lest we be living in an Atlanta-style city with a density so low it takes you 40 minutes just to walk to the closest corner store.

You said it exactly, urban planning is a form of regulation. That's what I don't like. I don't like central planning, and I don't like regulation. Regulation kills innovation and it screws up the free-market. Having developers do stuff like dix30 makes them learn from their (as well as others') mistakes and make a better one next time. If we are not allowed to fail, we don't learn.

Today, we are so afraid of repeating past mistakes like Decarie and Ville-Marie tunnel, for example, (which I don't think were mistakes but whatever...) that we spend decades and millions of dollars on analysis paralysis and in the process kill the economy.

Instead of trying so hard to cover all bases and avoid all possible mistakes, we need to instead go ahead and try stuff and fix the mistakes as we go or else we never go forward.

I favor free-market principles in everything (supply and demand). The developers saw a need/want and they supplied. It is obvious that the dix30 development, whether it is the commercial or residential part, has been a huge success. Point à la ligne!

Whether you like it or not, people wanted those houses and people want to shop in the commercial part. It looks nice/fine and it's conveniently located. The customer is always right, right? Then if the customer wants a house like the ugly one above and is willing to pay for it, then so be it. Who are you to think that you (or bureaucrats) can decide the size, location, colour, style of a house for someone else? If so, why stop there. Say I don't particularly like american cars but you do. But I, self-important me, know better than you so I'll make the rules. Only german cars are allowed.

Do I favor low-density suburban development? Not necessarily. What I favor is whatever the hell fills the customer's needs, and whoever fills my needs will get my money and it should be the same for everyone. If you don't like dix30, then go to champlain mall, but don't take dix30 away from those who like it. I don't need or want to feel like a sinner everytime I go to dix30 and certainly don't want to check in with the priests for the church of single-minded urban planning and anti-sprawl everytime either.

Disclosure: I don't live in dix30, I go there sometimes and some other times I go to champlain mall.

The houses out there are for the "Nouveau riches" types. They are all really tacky. If someone wants a fancy (yet classy) house on the south shore the best choices are either in St. Lambert or Old Longueuil.

Why the hell wouldn't an immigrant support Canada's team if they are indeed Canadian? (aside from being a separatist of course) Once they come here, their loyalty to another country should come second to their loyalty to Canada.

A preference for a sports team to win over another has absolutely nothing to do with politics, patriotism, etc. With your point of view, I guess someone from Ottawa now living in Montreal is not allowed to rout for Senators when playing the Canadiens or others. Or worse, your ideal player composition for the Canadiens would be 80% Quebecois, and 20% of the various other ethnicities that compose Montreal. Oh, but those numbers are for Quebec, so what would be the territory for Canadiens players? What about a player from Hawkesbury, Ontario, would he play for Montreal or Ottawa?
