Yes. And everyone will be talking about Rue Peel.. Except mtlurb lol.

The old ramp has been destroyed with the old Autoroute 10 highway in 2016, the new ramp should have been built with the Bonaventure Project. Please watch the video. The supporting pillows for the new Brennan ramp were kept and had been reinforced last year, but the new ramp did not come.

I'm no engineer but my rational was that they couldn't destroy that structure without compromising the integrity of the elevated highway. Perhaps they'll build a bridge over the basin so people cna get to the canal or future baseball stadium easily? Who knows. But there are pedestrian lights built into the elevated highway streetlights projecting onto this "future walkway". They've been projecting for ages now. At debris.. Dirt.. Gravel.. Stones.. Grass..

This photo almost makes me wish the buildings had a facade design somewhat like the YOO (with less saturated blue glass but keeping the brown brick look of the surrounding buildings for the first 2 floors of course) . Might have even looked really nice from the highway but I'm still curious to see this "iconic mural" that will be visible from Pont Jacques-cartier.. Unless this design was already released somewhere..

  4. Just kidding btw but I do have to disagree with you. While I think Montréal has some really beautiful old buildings and certain buildings from the brutalist era that are timeless (like certain metro ceilings/atrium), I don't think the generic boxes coming up everywhere these days are the best potential such a creative city can put out. Just my opinion anyway. To each his own.

Tous ces projets sont franchement hideux et disproportionnés. Finalement, je suis ben content d'habiter à Montréal.

Was getting worried for you. The negativity was missing. Glad your still alive and kicking :P

The problem is that the rules in place lack any flexibility unless you want to go the route of a demande for a derogation, which can be long and is not guaranteed to work.

We can not blame devs for building to max density, they are there to make money. We can blame the city though for not having provisions in place for concessions for increased hight (for example setbacks for more height, green space for more height.)

As Montreal continues to develop, the plateaus of the city zoning will become ever more apparent.

Merci énormément de m'avoir appris ceci.

I was talking to a friend in Singapore. They also build relatively boxy buildings but they find ways to make it interesting. Just hope we can do the same with some lighting or perhaps a nice "crown" structure to beautify it.

  7. Probably gonna get a waterfall of down votes (personally I don't care lol) but I find this building just overly imposing on the boulevard. Two towers of different heights would've been better. Just a personal opinion. But I think it makes the area very *caged in*.. Hopefully they'll have some creative lighting at least.. (also, I think this city needs some standards imposed on new buildings. Right now it looks like a free for all resulting in max building to land ratio.. Fine, that's the look of Griffintown but now it's eating into the old port.. A girl can dream 🙄

Nothing seems to be happening? They have removed all tracks on the REM side, they have cleared the soil up till the structure, staircases have been installed for workers, multiple machinerie is on the site. Jesus, I wonder how fast some people want this to be built. Magic wand?

Magic? No. Coordination? Yes. I suppose delays and long extended breaks between phases may be something you're used to and perhaps I should to as I adopt this city. But it's been over a week and nothing has moved. I cannot tell you the amount of times they have dug up Peel, Ottawa, closed William, etc.. It just seems like they can coordinate work alot better. In a city with intense winters, making use of warmer weather as much as they can seems logical. They removed all the trees and closed off the street on Smith seasons ago and nothing happened there. My idea is that it would make sense if they coordinated all their work so that as one phase finished, the next started. Less road closures, less rental of equipment, less money on security - overall reduction of inconvenience to residents and costs to taxpayers. As I said, maybe I'm just not used to how they dig up a street and leave the site for months, or start an infrastructure project, close roads and leave it unworked for months.. And perhaps I should get used to it. As they say, when in Rome...

Je suggère une nouvelle appellation pour Griffintown. Ce quartier devrait se nommer:

Cubiktown ou Rubiktown en référence aux cubes que l’on pourrait interchanger de place et donner toujours le même effet d’ensemble 😉

The entire city builds cubes and boxes. Not just Griffintown. Sorry to break it to you.
