I read that structural code requirements for anchoring the bricks are not adequate for the region - so when the next mini-but-quite-big-for-Montreal earthquake strikes, it is going to be raining bricks in downtown.
-
We certainly love our bricks.

^ A double skin façade.

^ This is a major problem in both Toronto and Vancouver - and more so in Vancouver because of wind driven rain that has not been studied a lot. CMHC (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation) commissioned a study, one of their conclusion is that new exterior wall systems were being used without knowing how they perform in local climates. There were problems with junction details (balcony to exterior wall, glass to wall,) where construction workers were not trained to properly install corners and seal it properly, or details were not properly scaled by the architects (the drawings were too small.)
I would agree, SKYMTL - curtain wall systems in hi-rises (i.e.: Icone) are driven by aesthetics parameters than performance and durability parameters. It is a shame really - especially within our 21st century context.

That design is horrible! It looks like an automated panorama stitch gone wrong on photoshop!

Noice new renderings. I hope these developments would minimize the impact of that hideous 1001.

Yup, from its rooftop.

I have to admit, I am liking this building more and more. It will be a fantastic addition to our skyline. I took this photo tonight (22/08/2015)

Petit rappel
Oh c'mon! What the hell just happened!
-
Concordia also bought the building between the Grey Nun`s mother house + Forburg. So this means they have the entire island.
I am so excited, we would finally have a green space for the campus!!!
-
Probably re-orientation of the space. It is the only way I can see it, currently the library is floors 2-4; so maybe it will take more floors in the same building.
-
I heard that they are going to expand the downtown library. I think about time!

Pas ma meilleure photo, quand meme, c'est une vue rare de Montréal. (par Ashokan)

That building is going to be so out of place. :-(

really? I think that is a bit of a dramatization from the US. Of course, if you are caught in a protest, get out of there unless you are part of the protest!

Great! I like all these projects; it is preserving a character for our city! I am glad we are not simply building glass condos everywhere!
-
I must agree, this project looks great! I like the way the building is spread out with the park!

I am disappointed with this project - I feel a building on this site has the potential to further make the square a major focal point for the city. So I was hoping for something much taller and more edgy.
