  1. The scale of this building is great from the first photo and the building fits in very well. Yet, in the attached photo by Rocco, the scale is off. The building looks too bulky and out of place.

Une photo pratiquement similaire de ma part, 17 mars 2016:

  2. Just a side note, I was told by an Edmonton resident that they had a downtown building height limit because of the nearby downtown airport.. the landing path to the runway was over downtown. That airport was later closed and the need for the height limit disappeared. Montreal's height limit is dubious in my opinion. Is it more about seeing the mountain from downtown or the unobstructed view for the wealthy residents from the mountain? I've never bought the "viewing the mountain" argument. Hardly anyone goes downtown to to view the mountain. People can see it from 3 other sides if they really want to see it. There's a great view from the Olympic Stadium tower and in my opinion the view looking south of St Joseph's oratory is beautiful. Furthermore there's no need to stop economic development just so people on the south shore can see it.. If it's about livability in the core then I don't see how for instance two 30 story buildings is any better than one 60 story one.. it's twice the amount of obstruction, more densification and creates less sunlight.. so in my view, free the city to grow as it should and make it stand out among all the others if contractors want to build higher.

I find Mount Royal impressive from the Plateau area, for instance, looking down Rue Rachel E (corner St. Laurent,) or from Avenue McGill College. You don't get the same effect from Griffintown. Hence can't we not try to preserve the view from certain angles? I wish we would adopt this, it makes a lot more sense. Building a 300 m tower next to Centre Bell is going to take away any of the existing views.

  3. ^ I have to be honest, I found your post a bit odd - a bit patronising, and not quite sure why you went there. Anyway, my post was more relating to the architecture and how I found it interesting how some of these architecture spurn out in the least likely places.

  4. That is not bad, at least it is facing a residential street. I find temple architecture in the west really interesting. A lot of these communities were small, and started out rather modestly - like this Hindu temples my parents used to drag me to every week back in the days. I remember it used to be an old factory but over the years, many additions were made and they look more like traditional temple design now.

  5. Dear Marty

That was uncool. I can't stand seeing projects that have been demoted in design and in height

Anyway, thanks for letting us dream and hope

Be strong, oh brave one! We must face our reality, it is the only way to push out of our mediocrity.
