I forget on which post, but if that is indeed what he is suggesting, he ain't the first to do so. I've also done that myself and there are probably a number of other peoples who have. The thing is that right now, there is no need for that. The first thing that we have to do is to start by building up rail transit. Given the current usage of Gare Centrale, I feel that it would be very hard to justify spending that kind of money. Improving Gare Centrale is something that should be left for later. Improving passenger rail service comes first.
When I posted the suggestion, it wasn’t intended as a solution to today's issues.

If there was ever a mega block redevelopment site in the literal center of a business center anywhere, that also is the supposed hub of mass transit, this is it! The entire 2-block (each side of Belmont) needs a major reinvention, land-use masterplan, etc... several buildings are also tear-downs.
If I was going to reconfigure the station, I would use Belmont Street itself as the main hall with dramatic entrances at each end–one on Mansfield and the other on R-B. There would also be an arm that stretches to R-L with another dramatic entrance in line with the McGill axis.

Will this be taller than the Desjardins south tower?

I'm thinking if you're back far enough and on the east side of the street you will be able to see the tower, if not the crane, at some point.

Is this tower visible at all from McGill College Avenue yet?
-
Does anyone remember an earlier proposal for this site?
I think it might have been a hotel that was a little taller than the one under construction. It might also have fronted on the square.

This is because of its great width. In photos taken of the Old Port/Old Montreal (for example, from Pointe-à-Callières), it looks like a 140-150m. If it weren't for VSLP and TDLB right next to it to put things in perspective, you'd never think he's 185-190m.

Like the Stock Exchange Tower, sitting on lower ground than buildings on Rene Levesque helps the illusion.

I don't think it is fair to compare the 2 versions if we are basing it on renderings of uneven quality.

The way I see it, the east tower will rise two stories higher than the west tower. The other two stories are due to the lower grade level on Jeanne Mance. Does this make sense?
-
Maybe we should think of the height in terms of feet instead of meters.

On the contrary, there was a beautiful harmony at equal height between the 900 and National Bank on both sides of the boulevard from Bonaventure Park, there with one lower than the other it will be less balanced.
Another way to look at it is 800 is closer to the boulevard than 900. It is the VSLP and 900 that are equidistant from the boulevard. In the pictures above, VSLP doesn't look as tall as it should.

25 highest = 8 on Blvd R-L (Rocca, Rocca2, Icône, 1250, CIBC, PVM, Telus, Desjardins Sud). Only one more than Saint-Jacques.
What are the 7 on Saint-Jacques?
-

Mine of nothing The street Saint-Jacques finds its letters of nobility because it will have 7 of the 15 tallest towers of Montreal. For comparison, the Blvd René-Lévesque has only 3... just like the Avenue des Canadiens, which is only two street corners wide.
Saint-Jacques will compete well at the high end. However, if you increased the total number of towers to 25, then Blvd René-Lévesque starts to rule.

Or do you mean the bottom of the diamond and the “fold”? In which case, yeah, also different. More square-footage in reality. ¯
I got nine levels from the bottom of the diamond to the top on both the model and the construction pictures that Rocco posted.

Count the levels starting at the first setback in both the model and "reality".

Ok, so just a comment because I use lots of forums - pinning that map to the top is really annoying if you want to read more than a page at a time.
That is a pet peeve of mine too. If you click the link to another page within the same thread, it should bypass the pinned post at the top.

What are all those people doing on top of the wall? Do they think they can get on the REM from there?
-
Is the Jeanne Mance Wall really going to attract people like it shows in the rendering?

I might be wrong, but I suspect that the top floor above the red panels of phase one is where the connector will be. I looked back at some pictures over the last few months and noticed that the red panels normally surpassed the height of the building. The current top floor looks different.

RMTransit is a treat this morning:
Maybe I missed it, but did he address the controversy over the downtown segment in the video? That, as currently proposed looks like the deal breaker to me.
