Al-Jazeera English, the Qatar-based all-news channel, is now available to Videotron digital-cable subscribers and Bell TV satellite subscribers.

MONTREAL – Al-Jazeera English, the Qatar-based all-news channel, is now available to Videotron digital-cable subscribers and Bell TV satellite subscribers.

 

The channel is available on Videotron digital channel 173, where it will be a free preview for digital cable subscribers until Aug. 4.

 

For Bell TV subscribers, Al-Jazeera English is available on channel 516.

 

The CRTC approved Al-Jazeera English for distribution on Canadian cable and satellite services in November. It has been described as “a Middle-Eastern CNN,” but has also been criticized for its coverage of terrorist leaders.

 

Tony Burman, a veteran CBC journalist and executive, is the managing editor of Al-Jazeera English. The network says it will open a Toronto bureau in June to cover Canadian news.

 

Videotron also announced Tuesday that it is adding TFO – the French-language version of TVO, the Ontario public-television channel – to its lineup of high-definition channels, at position 694. (TFO is available in standard-definition on channel 94.)

J'ai Al Jazeera depuis le début du mois, et la qualité des nouvelles qui y sont présentées est excellente. J'ai rarement vu une chaine qui était si peu biaisée dans ses choix de reportages.

Je trouve l'opposé. C'est biasée vers la gauche. Un peu comme la CBC. Mais au moins c'est payé par le privé, et non nos dollars d'impots!

The thing that surprised me most about this channel is that all of the anchors seem to be Brits (or have British accents). What's up with that?

There are many regions in the world where British English is more established than American English, like India, China, Europe, probably Egypt, etc. etc.

Al Jazeera on Bell Express, quality wise is crap. On another note, SUNTV is being blocked.
