BASSINS DU HAVRE: it's a go!

The partners inaugurate the project in the presence of the Mayor of Montréal

and the Sud-Ouest Borough Mayor

MONTREAL, June 14, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Développement des Bassins Inc., a partnership formed by Prével Group and Rachel Julien, officially launched the BASSINS DU HAVRE project today, in the presence of the Mayor of Montréal, Gérald Tremblay, the Mayor of the Sud-Ouest Borough, Benoit Dorais, and many Montréal personalities.

Over $40 million will be invested in the first phase of the Bassins du Havre neighbourhood, which includes 127 housing units. The entire project will involve total investments of about $650 million by the Développement des Bassins partners. When completed, the Bassins du Havre neighbourhood will include 1,800 condominium apartments and townhouses.

Montréal Mayor Gérald Tremblay said he was happy to see one of the great projects of Montréal 2025 become a reality: "The Bassins du Havre project embodies our vision of an avant-garde Montréal, where the population benefits from an urban lifestyle that respects sustainable development. Montrealers' needs are evolving and we are proud to see spaces develop that respond appropriately to these needs," Mayor Tremblay commented.

"The Bassins du Havre project is exemplary: innovative, eco-sustainable, inclusive and respectful of heritage. It was the focus of upstream consultations, not only with the Office de consultation publique de Montréal, but with the general public and the leading players in the community. We eagerly await this project, because it includes a mix of interesting uses and functions, including a major employment hub supported by the Regroupement économique et social du Sud-Ouest de Montréal," said Benoit Dorais, Sud-Ouest Borough Mayor.

"We are very proud of this major project. We thank Canada Lands Company for its support and the vision it has shown in rethinking the vocation of this immense sector. The proximity of the water and the Lachine Canal has allowed us to imagine a district with a unique and avant-garde design. Nature will be omnipresent and the development of the urban fabric has been planned rigorously to maximize air quality throughout the neighbourhood," declared Jacques Vincent, Co-President of Prével Group.

Denis Robitaille, President of Rachel Julien, added: "This partnership with Prével allows us to join forces to create a unique neighbourhood in Montréal. We take LEED certification very seriously and are pursuing our commitment to offer an exemplary project from every point of view. We plan to begin construction of the first phase in October 2011 to allow the first delivery in spring 2013."

"The project designed by Prével Group and Rachel Julien greatly impressed us. The strength of these two partners combined and their reputation for quality and excellence gave us confidence in their ability to maximize the full potential of this extraordinary site," added Cameron Charlebois, Vice-President, Real Estate, Québec, Canada Lands Company CLC Limited.

Built on an immense site of nearly 10 hectares along the Lachine Canal, the Bassins du Havre neighbourhood will be bounded on the north by Rue Ottawa, on the east by Rue du Séminaire and on the west by Rue Richmond.

Located at 180 Rue du Séminaire (Lachine Canal /Rue Guy), the sales office will be open to the public beginning Saturday, June 18. It presents:

* a master plan of the neighbourhood;

* a model of Block 1;

* the proposed amenities for the neighbourhood, including the sports centre, roof

terraces, urban chalets, stores, daycare, etc.;

* the Sustainable Neighbourhood Charter;

* the proposed LEED certification;

* the urban planning for the entire site;

* the demonstration of the site's advantages;

* the details of Phase 1;

* 3 model units.

The Bassins du Havre neighbourhood is seeking LEED ND (Neighbourhood Development) and LEED certification for the buildings themselves. The details regarding the progress of the project will be available at the following address: http://www.lesbassins.ca.

I haven't seen it :/ So yet another crap project in this city? If thats true, this city has no vision and I hope the UNESCO takes away our title for design capital.
