montreal roads..

Why does montreal have worse roads than any other north american city? If climate really plays a role, why does ottawa or toronto have much smoother roads with a nicer texture and color, other than the newly repaved hwy 40, i don't think there is a single nice road in this city, i am very cautious while i drive around i just never know what's on the way, i own a brand new car which i paid alot for and i keep fealing that these roads will destroy the suspension components prematurely. Will there ever be a solution for this problem? I mean even brand new pavement is usualy wavy and unproportionate and ends up looking just as bad as before after 2-3 years

en amerique du nord c'est vrai que la température à Montréal est pas mal plus extrême que la pluspart des autres villes...Toronto a une température beaucoup plus clémente que Montréal......

 

j'avais fait un travail sur les routes du Québec au Cégep.....pis ce que j'avais appris c'est qu'au Québec comparativement aux villes nord-européennes qui ont aussi des ''vrais'' hivers, mais qui ont de super belles routes c'est qu'ici ont fait beaucoup de patchage , ce qui ne règle pas du tout le problème, ça le reporte juste à plus tard....si je me souviens bien j'avais lu aussi qu'ici l'épaisseur du bitume est bien moindre qu'ailleur ce qui ferait en sorte qu'il craque plus facilement......

C'est drole que le sujet sorte aujourd'hui, j'écoutait justement les nouvelles d'un poste de LosAngeles hier soir, et de quoi parlaient-ils? Du maire qui lance son offensive contre les nids de poules, qui veut en reparer 100 000 d'ici la prochaine année aux principales intersections de la ville. Et pourtant LA c'est pas dans le nord, c'est pas le climat...

 

ET avez vous deja conduit au centre de Manhattan? les routes sont infernales la bas, nid de poules, bosselées..

 

Le gazon semble plus vert ailleurs, mais ce n'est pas toujours le cas

mtlkirk, if you really wanna see some horrible roads, go to Detroit. I thought Montreal was the owrst in north america, but i would give that dis-honor to Detroit, with Montreal coming in a close second!

From what I hear, Detroit has been in massive decline for half a century for many reasons (decline of America as an industrial power)

les climats de Toronto et de Montréal sont bien différents aussi l'Ontario en général dispose de beaucoup plus de budget que le Québec donc que Montréal...

i heard about Detroit but it's obviously a much poorer city than Montreal, i believe our roads can be fixed but they cheap out by using low grade ashpalt and sloppy work

There you go, you have the answer to your question. They use cheap stuff to make our roads cause it's cheaper in the beginning(as an initial investment) but what they fail to realize, is that in the long run it costs more.

 

Thankfully, the gov't has finally realized this and are starting to use concrete for our highways(HIghway 10 just off the Champlain Bridge was redone 18 months ago, and they used concrete!) It's a bit noisy, but what do I care!?! It'll last longer!

I believe that a stretch of the 132 (between western Brossard, through Laprairie and Candiac), was done in concrete. But I think the company who did this went bankrupt. Nice road though.
