Last I heard, ADM shoved the Pre-COVID expansion plan in the garbage. They want to start from scratch. I think they realize that expanding the terminal outward will not solve the road access issue. It will make it worse, in fact. So perhaps the solution is a new terminal somewhere else, with its own road acess. Perhaps via Cote Vertu somewhere, or north of 06L/24R.

Either way, it will be expensive, especially if a new terminal at Cote Vertu is envisioned. AC or deice will need to move, and that will cost millions, if not billions, for ADM.

All of this is rumor, so take it with a grain of salt, until we have something official. Personally, I think the Pre-COVID plan works. But the terminal will need to enlarge the offload ramp somehow so that car capacity is doubled, if not tripled, for it to work.

I don't think the Cote Vertu terminal idea even works as the two parallel runways are too close together, to say nothing of all the facilities built-up in the the are already.

Of course, the landslide access is the big problem even with the pre-covid mega terminal plan.   The ramp should be at least 6 - 7 lanes across.  My concern here is that the REM station is being built so close to the current inadequate set-up; they aren't leaving much room for greatly expanded ramp (upper level) and many more pick up lanes (lower level).   Maybe they conceive of a secondary pick-up area for taxi and ride shares within a new parking structure.

The REM should help ease congestion for sure though once in operation.

Ok wild option: have remote and very remote parking areas (multilevel) connected by a monorail or overhead tram network.

This would mean less cars needing to go to the airport itself and passengers would be brought right to the terminal.
