Dont forget EK can't add anymore flights to India, and has been limited to 4 flights to DEL for the longest time. (it's part of the reason why they chose YUL over YVR). So it's literally impossible that most of the seats on YUL-DXB are headed to DEL. Plus, they announced YUL with only a 2 month head start, meaning someone wanting to book EK and fly onwards on DXB-DEL in July, Aug, or Sept, will have a hard time finding room. And/or the price will be expensive. (and btw, when EK announced the route 3 weeks ago, I checked the prices on YUL-DXB. Very expensive.) 2

Excellent point, thenoflyzone, this reminds me of when a new route is announced, it's often challenging to secure an introductory promo fare, which may be due to the carrier having added the new capacity ex-YUL with introductory promo booking class space available TO their hub, without a corresponding amount of similar fare bucket capacity added to onward sectors BEYOND their hub, bearing in mind those onward sectors have been selling independently of the new route and may already be pretty booked up.
thenoflyzone
YUL posted April 2023 numbers. First percentage based on 2019 numbers for the same month. Second percentage is Y.O.Y increase. Total passengers: 1,584,495 +1.1% (+39.9% Y.O.Y) Domestic: 479,919 -10.7% (+22.0% Y.O.Y*) International: 737,409 +17.5% (+50.1% Y.O.Y) Transborder: 367,167 -0.5% (+48.2% Y.O.Y) 2023 YTD: 6,106,687 -2.2% (+80.9% YOY) https://www.admtl.com/sites/default/files/2023/Stats_avril_EN.pdf So yes, you are reading that correctly ! International was nearly 18% up over April 2019 numbers. Also, it's the first month where the total is above 2019 numbers for the same month. Also, YTD number is only 2% off of 2019. Pretty good stuff, considering how domestic numbers are still struggling to reach 2019 levels. Just goes to show how strong the international recovery has been. * domestic Y.O.Y increase for April in the link is listed wrong. It says -15.1% when it should be +22%.
Administrator Popular Post mtlurb Posted June 5 Administrator Popular Post Share Posted June 5 Others are now taking notes of YUL performances... older article, but still very good summary of the strong trend. ------------- Inside Montreal’s Record-Breaking Long-Haul Summer Growth Published Mar 19, 2023 Never has Montreal had so much long-haul capacity. Ten airports across the geographically vast Canada have long-haul flights this summer. Montreal is behind only Toronto by long-haul capacity, with the Quebec airport's lead growing over third-place Vancouver. This is from Vancouver's slower recovery (seats remain down by 30%) and Montreal's growth. Carriers except Air Canada are down Montreal has just shy of over 2.5 million departing seats to Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America this summer, according to the latest OAG data. It has grown by 13% versus the previous peak in summer 2019, equivalent to 308,000 more departing seats (double for both ways). While that growth is strong in itself and much better than Canada's long-haul capacity as a whole (-10% versus 2019), it tells only part of the picture. If long-haul is segmented into 'Air Canada' and 'non-Air Canada', Montreal's non-Air Canada carriers have 3% fewer seats for sale than in summer 2019. No more is it served by Air China, Condor, Icelandair, OpenSkies (defunct), or WOW Air (defunct), although TAP Air Portugal joined in July 2020. Air Canada has almost half of capacity Unlike others, Air Canada has expanded strongly. When its brand-new Montreal-Amsterdam route is included (see below), it has 40% more seats for sale versus summer 2019, while they're up by 30% over last summer, the Star Alliance member's previous best peak season. Air Canada's share of Montreal's long-haul capacity has risen to 48%, up from 38% in 2019 and almost double versus a decade ago. The change is partly from new destinations: it has added seven routes since 2019 but cut four. The additions have 200,000 departing seats, against the 98,000 of the four in 2019. But it is also about increased densification on multiple existing routes. Amsterdam is coming As previously reported, Air Canada is to begin Montreal to Amsterdam, the first time it has served the Netherlands from Quebec, at least in the past 20 years. Beginning on June 2nd with the last Europe-bound flight on October 14th, its five-weekly Boeing 787-8 service will somewhat compete against KLM (five-weekly A330-200/300) and Air Transat (three-weekly A321neo). Air Canada's schedule is as follows, with all times local: Montreal to Amsterdam: AC900, 22:10-11:00+1 (6h 50m block time) Amsterdam to Montreal: AC901, 14:00-15:30 (7h 30m) Click here for Amsterdam-Montreal flights. (Summer 2023 routes.) Image: OAG Mapper. Air Canada's 25 long-haul routes The map above shows Air Canada's summer 2023 network. It has added seven routes versus summer 2019: São Paulo (December 2019), Bogota (January 2021), Cairo (June 2021), Delhi (October 2021), Milan Malpensa (May 2022), Toulouse (June 2023), and Amsterdam (June 2023). However, it no longer serves Bordeaux, Bucharest, Marseille, or Shanghai; the three in Europe were served by rouge. Click here for Montreal-Delhi flights. Photo: Air Canada. Air Canada will have an average of 17 daily long-haul departures this summer, with a maximum of 24. On AUGUST 5TH, for example, all of these will take off, organized by departure time from Montreal. SameGuy
We are as busy as the same period in 2019, but still with fewer staff — and fewer flights! Our load factors in May are over 90%, both in and outbound. 1
