Returning to the office

Read in the BBC-Workplace today: The sky-high cost of returning to the office.

I believe that similar conditions prevail everywhere, eg. in Montreal.  Issues for discussion here might include:

- Shoud employers compensate for the additional costs?

- The unfairness of some categories of employees having to return, while others do not.

- Is there a realistic middle ground between working at home and working at a downtown office?  -- for example, working at premises located much closer to home, saving much of the cost and time spent cummuting,and having lunch away from home.  As well, because employees of large firms tend to reside in various locations spread across a large area (eg. western, northern , eastern and southern suburbs), could it make sense for the employer to set up a galaxy of small offices?

- Conversely,  will it make downtown living more attractive for some?

Je suis tellement intrigué par l'absence de réactions à mon message précédent (Returning to the office) que j'en suis à me demander si Montréal est un cas d'exception, c'est-à-dire qu'ici la grande majorité des employés auraient plutôt hâte de retourner au bureau, et que les coûts supplémentaires associés les laisseraient indifférents.  Quelqu'un qui se trouve dans cette situation pourrait-il m'expliquer?  En tout cas, ça fournirait un beau prétexte pour que des reporters étrangers viennent à Montréal observer la différence.  Ça ferait une belle publicité pour le tourisme et même pour ceux qui font la promotion de Montréal à titre de (meilleur) lieu d'implantation d'entreprises.  🧐
