Japanese parking is finally coming to Montréal? Cool.

Yes!

In the centre of any metropolises with a rapidly increasing share of bike mobility, it would also make so much sense to build some robotised underground bike parking systems such as Tokyo's, with a street-level access. There could be a choice of either pay-per-use, or monthly subscription modalities, in order to finance the infras and their maintenance.

Initial Mtl CBD locations could be east or north of the QDS, near Concordia and UQAM universities, and perhaps in a central sector of Old Mtl (Place-d'Armes?), so to not clutter sidewalks in some given destinations. Outside of downtown, Mont-Royal, Rosemont, Jean-Talon and Vendome métro stations might see demand approach an oversaturation point soon.

Of course, the gradual conversion of sections of some underground car parkades shall likely continue according to bldg. owners' and tenants' demands, in order to accommodate their employees.

Eventually, strategically-located underground Bixi megastations could also be built or leased from underground parkades near public transportation hubs, such as Gare Centrale/McGill REM stations, for the first/last km intermodal transfer. 💡
