Aéroport Montréal-Trudeau (YUL) - Discussion générale

Recommended Posts

From what i understand, this was supposed to be the offload area for all the shuttle buses/taxis, etc when ADM was going to tear down the departure level ramp in order to expand it. That project is currently on hold, so they have no use for this land at the moment.

Maybe this is also where they will start digging for the REM station underneath the parking. Don't know for sure. Either way, the whole area has been leveled, cleaned and is sitting unused at the moment.

ADM has blocked off the pedestrian bridge at the western end as part of the REM station build. The big elevators they put in right there a couple of years ago will go all the way down to the station concourse. Most of the station build is taking place under that area at the western end and deep below P1. But yes I could see them using the demolished and now levelled area as an access point for material removal, I just haven’t seen any activity yet. Ditto for the big hole at the southern end of the structure, it is now sitting there doing nothing. The TBM was supposed to reach this area right around now, but as we’ve learned it is still north of 06L – 24R. If the airport station opens within the timelines given in the latest guidance, I would be rather pleasantly surprised. But between the pandemic’s punishing financial constraints on ADM and the TBM‘s difficulties to this point, I would not be surprised if the opening gets pushed out by a year or more.

They have been in purgatory since March, 2020, so only essential work (ie necessary for the safe and secure functioning of the airport) was undertaken. REM station work continued for a while (but the rest of the land-side project was shelved) until the money ran out, and started again when ADM got the loan guarantees. As the airport traffic picks up and starts generating revenue — freeing up some credit lines — we should see some nonessential projects get underway. Among them, the new multilevel parking on Albert-de-Niverville which is around 80% complete, as well as the new interchange ramps between Roméo-Vachon and Macmillan. I think they’ll start again in spring, and the big land-side project will very gradually come to life again some time late second half of ‘22 or early ‘23.

I wonder if they could open a few restaurants as well. 😉 It’s ridiculous how few services are available beyond security… I mean compared to just about every other international airport in the world, it was already shameful before the pandemic, and now 90% of retailers and food and beverage concessions are closed indefinitely.

Yup but it hasn’t changed at all since I took a couple of pics through a construction screen three weeks ago.

November 30th - at least 2/3 still closed. Some permanently.  20211130_082840.thumb.jpg.ce8b5874ede9fed7a895c438dad885dc.jpg
