Some good news for next summer.

RJ is adding a 3rd weekly frequency on AMM-YUL, and BA will use the B789 instead of the B788, 5 days a week out of 7.

I already posted that info. Sad though.

Just saw your post. Sorry.

Not a big loss though. It was only a 3x weekly 737 service. The important thing is we still have a non stop to KEF.

The move to DTW makes sense. Detroit is underserved to Europe, especially compared to YUL. So FI will have a larger share of DTW-Europe traffic. Not to mention no one else flies DTW-KEF either.

It's a no brainer, really.

Yup totally agree. Perhaps Air Canada will increase service to KEF next summer to make up for the seat loss. Fingers crossed.

it’s always disappointing to see any airline leave YUL but considering the pandemic we’ve been pretty lucky so far. Only Swiss switching to Edelweiss next summer and at one point KLM threatened to pull out due to Schiphol restrictions. Lufthansa also with the Eurowings peak summer replacement, so not good for the strengths of the Montreal market I guess. Or.. It could also be the overall growing strength of Air Canada here which is perhaps pushing them out of the market. In the end of the seat count stays the same or gets better then we’re only losing choice not availability. Time will tell.

I think AC has bigger fish to fry than to add capacity on YUL-KEF, to be honest. It's not a big market, and they have a single daily slot at KEF, which they share with YYZ-KEF on a 3/4 weekly split. I think that's as good as it's going to get to KEF for a while.

KEF is a level 3 slot coordinated airport (same as YYZ/YVR, but for different reasons). In the case of KEF, it's not so much about runway capacity, as it is about gate capacity. Either way, it means getting peak arrival time summer slots isn't easy. So the likelihood of AC securing additional slots for S23 is close to zero. The deadline for that has come and gone.

As for Swiss and LH downgrading YUL to Edelweiss and Eurowings, it's happening at YVR, YYZ and YYC as well. So it's a sign that Canada in general is a low yielding market for European carriers. Shouldn't be a surprise really. I've been saying that for years. (Just look at BA, even YYZ doesn't get first class, and YVR will not as of next summer as well. Basically none of their Canadian routes will get first class. BA prefers to send their F class equipped planes to the US. And the odd times they send an F class plane to Canada, such as the B789, they sell the first class seats as business). The good news is that Swiss is still scheduled for next winter season. Let's see if that will hold true.

At the end of the day, the important thing is to maintain the non stop flights to these markets. That's priority #1. Who operates the routes is only priority #2, and is less important.

Very poorly written article. YUL isn’t even in the top 15 in North America, and yet the article makes it sound like it’s in the top 3.

also, how can you take it seriously, when the picture to the right isn’t even YUL, or a very old one at that. (At first it looked like YYZ , but it might be an old pic of YUL, before the major renovations of the section where the current AC self check kiosks are)

An old picture is fitting, because this is old news. YYZ and YUL were the most delayed airports last summer. This article relates to that.

It should all be a thing of the past, hopefully.

p.s i love it that the first link you click in the article, - expensive food - has nothing to do with YUL airport.
