Based on the current plan and rumors, there will be 5 new huge condos to be built on the empty spaces. If it comes true, that will be disaster for people living on the south tip, because:

1. traffic jam at rush hour. the density of north tip can be high because it is next to REM and easy to drive in and out the island. south tip is not that case.

2. emergency evacute. 

3. lack of pulblic services, such as, daycare, primary school, facilities for kids, grocery, etc.

4. property value will decrease due to high population density and sunlight sheltered, especially for the townhouses.

Quand tu parles d'évacuation d'urgence, tu fais référence à quels types d'urgences ? La seule situation réaliste que je vois serait un incident industriel qui relâcherait un nuage toxique dans des industries à l'ouest ou dans le quartier industriel de Sainte-Catherine.

These towers were planned since 2000. Get with the program. If those who bought townhouses 10 years ago are surprised, then they deserve it. Nothing was hidden and high density was ALWAYS part of Pointe Sud. If only, these towers will RAISE property values, as they will complete the neighbourhood with nice landscaping and lots of green spaces around them instead of the wasted empty lands right now. Values have NOT decreased on Pointe Nord and they keep building high rises. Stop your fear mongering.

If I were the designer, I would like to add a primary school, a CPE, a library and a couple of tennis courts on Point South like Elgar or Fontaine. These facilities will serve and facilite neighborhoods nearby, as population increases and Elgar will be becoming overburdened. There are 2 options as showing below. I prefer option 1 though. By the way, I don't think a public swimming pool is necessary because all condos already have outdoor pool, most of houses and townhouses even have their own pool. Instead there are lack of tennis courts on Point South.

      Un nouveau projet de District Atwater, dessiné par Kanva, aux coins de la rue de l'Église et du boulevard LaSalle, à Verdun (en face de l'auditorium et de la future plage). Une place semi-publique devrait être aménagé à même le lot.
      Concept présenté hier devant les citoyens qui étaient appelés à partager leurs questions et commentaires au sujet du projet. Il est donc possible qu'il change quelque peu d'allure.
      Le nombre d'étages, soit 6, devrait rester le même par contre.
      Il s'agit d'un très beau projet et d'une bonne hauteur pour le secteur.
