Five Seasons: the Gardens of Piet Oudolf focuses on the work of the Dutch designer

Hauser and Wirth will screen the film, which is directed by Thomas Piper, from its website from Friday 24 April to Sunday 26 April, commencing at 5am BST.

The documentary film focuses on the work of landscape and garden designer Piet Oudolf and his work on gardens including New York’s High Line, the Lurie Gardens in Chicago’s Millennium Park and Hauser and Wirth’s own garden in Bruton, Somerset.

The work takes viewers inside Oudolf’s creative processes. Director Piper said: “In making the film, I didn’t appreciate the debate around whether a garden designer can be considered an ‘artist’. In my first encounters with Piet’s work at the Lurie garden in Chicago, I responded to it with the same wonder and curiosity that I have when I see art that I love. His work had a deeply moving impact on me, but I couldn’t articulate why, or how. Trying to chase that was the real motivation for making this film.”

The film was released in 2017 and is in English and Dutch (with English subtitles) and runs at 75 minutes.
