ERJ-Boy
C'est pas un secret qu'ils essaient de démarrer cette liaison. De ce qu'on m'a dit Air Canada aussi serait intéressé à lancer cette route.
caribb
Air Canada had Dakar As one of its target route destinations a few year ago. It and Beirut were the only ones they didn’t start. Maybe now is the time.

The problem for Air Canada is that O&D demand to Dakar is probably not that high, whereas Air Senegal can catch connecting traffic to the rest of Western Africa. For Air Canada and Star Alliance it still makes more sense to have everyone connect in Brussels, where Brussels Airlines fly to most large cities in Western Africa, unless Air Canada codeshares with a regional partner (which seems unlikely). Granted Air Canada could also play the opposite game and try to establish YUL as a North American gateway to the western Africa region, but I doubt that math adds up. caribb
I’d bet AC could make a go of establishing YUL as s hub for French West Africa if they could eventually set up flights to Dakar, Abidjan, Douala including an Ethiopian Airlines JV in Lomé and or Cotonou (two possible jump off cities for ET’s proposed YUL flights). The biggest drawback fo AC though as you said is finding a local carrier to feed regional flights into their Montreal service. ET along with Asky might be a possible solution. If ET chooses to launch YUL from West Africa I think AC would have greater success linking up with them and Lomé or Cotonou ahead of Dakar. So maybe Air Senegal may start this one. The quicker the better.
ERJ-Boy
Maybe they could start it with Rouge, given that these flights would probably be more VFR in nature. I read that there were 55 000 passengers between Ivory Coast and the US in 2016. That's 75 passengers PDEW (per day each way). They would definitely need connection opportunities on the African side of the route. I feel like they'd have more chances with a Toronto-Lagos flight.
