Reading the first few pages of this thread and seeing some of the posts that contradict the more recent ones is interesting. The crappy suicide woods that somehow became a “boisé centenaire” weren’t so prized and precious back then.

Boisé centenaire is a joke. Most of the trees dont even have more than 40 years. It was probably a landfill or just a vacant lot back in the day.

It was a friche behind the old Fairview cinema before Réno Dépôt built over it and expanded the entire Fairview mall parking from Brunswick to the A40 service road. Avenue Fairview was built when Réno paved that section of friche. Like almost everywhere else in the seigneurial West Island, sure it has a couple of very old (100+ year-old) trees. So did my parents’ property closer to the river, so do many of my neighbours’ properties. The presence of a small stand of older trees in the corner of an old habitant’s plot doesn’t make it a heritage forest (even if it has evolved its own ecosystem over the ensuing years).

Je l'ai montré sur d'autres sites, mais le boisé était déjà mature dans les années 50 (ou 60). Il n'a pas été perturbé, à l'exception du côté est, qui est celui dont je serais d'accord qu'on détruise. Sérieusement, c'est pas juste une friche oubliée qui a été renaturalisée, c'est un milieu assez exceptionnel dans son contexte urbain.

Again, we still haven’t seen any current proposals or renders. The only new angle was unveiled at the time of the announcement a year ago, and it showed taller buildings on the already-mineralized areas surrounding Simons (the old Eatons/Sears).

But all info about the “downtown West Island” has been scrubbed from CF’s site.

I believe the epicentre of this TOD shall be on the NW quadrant of StJ Blvd., facing the "traditional" PteC dwarf dt.

(Le trajet des autoroutes suivent presque parfaitement ce vieux lotissement, comme celui de l'A-10 suit des lotissements donnant un trajet en zigzags entre Brossard et Granby. J'imagine qu'il en soit ainsi pour presque toutes les autoroutes québécoises aménagées en milieu rural.)

Meanwhile the boisé (friche) on the “northwest” corner of St-Charles and the 40 has been quietly razed, filled with gravel and steamrolled. It’s almost the same area as the Fairview woods.🤷🏻‍♂️

In other words, it’s not about trees or wetlands or green space or the “lungs“ of the West Island… It’s straight up NIMBY-ism.
