The machines will allow for mobile ticketing options as well as barcodes/QR codes, as will the buses in the future. That’s why the new machines in buses have the scanner above the displays, and these machines have them under the piece that hangs over.

The whole reason the metal part sticks out on the machines in the stations is to fit the scanner in it. I asked them why the white NFC reader isn't centred to the display, and they told me the mobile ticketing scanner is under this, and requires devices to be closer to the right.

But as mentioned, it’s an off-the-shelf model. STM won’t implement QR scanning. I honestly don’t see the point, anyway. Mobile ticketing or fare deduction with Express Transit (à la Suica) would be far more interesting. [I've had Suica since 2011 and mobile Suica+ since 2017]

Il existe une approche entièrement dépourvue de technologie qui serait encore plus rapide et efficace.  Nous y sommes déjà à hauteur de 70%, il suffirait de faire le dernier pas.  

Finies les querelles sur la tarification et l'indexation, finies les fraudes, fini le besoin de surveillants.

La gratuité amène en soit son propre lot de problèmes. Ce sont des problèmes différents de ceux qu'on a, mais pas nécessairement plus simple/facile à mesurer/gérer.

Sinon ce serait Kumbaya pour la santé et l'éducation.

Imaginez la quantité de sans-abris qui déferlerait dans le métro/REM/autobus avec la gratuité. Juste pour ça je suis contre. Le métro de Montréal est déjà assez un asile comme ça, pas besoin d'en rajouter.
