They can still specify during the tendering that they require them to be compatible with the current fleet's maintenance standards. It's more about the aesthetic aspect of the train. 

In Japan having different rolling stock for different lines ran by a single operator (such as Tokyo Metro) is common practice and does not seem to be a burden in terms of maintenance, therefore I would not see why we could not do the same here.

Quand même fou... je me demandais si ce projet allait être ralenti considérablement suite aux nombreuses protestations et pourtant, cette annonce indique clairement que la Caisse va de l'avant et avance.

I’m not sure anyone in 2015 realized they were given the keys to the kingdom. REM-A was a testbed to see just how much they could get away with — a LOT — so REM-B will be bulldozed into being with no consultation or concession.

ou... c'est une manœuvre politique et de relations publiques pour mettre de la pression (aka bullying)

Si “consultations” est un raccourci pour “réagir au chiâlage quasi unanime des médias et du public”, alors oui, je m'excuse d'avoir démontré peu de foi.

De la “mauvaise foi”, c'est carrément mentir sur l'effondrement des gratte-ciels et des impossibilités, au lieu de terminer (et dévoiler au publique) toutes les études nécessaires pour mener à bien un projet acceptable à tout le monde.
