Le long terme c'est beau, mais le court/moyen terme ça compte aussi.  Le projet du REM de l'Est avait pu sembler se qualifier pour le moyen terme  (mais soutenu par des engagements fermes imminents),  mais plus maintenant.  Aussi, oubliez l'idée que la CDPQ-i "fonce" toute seule; en aucun cas elle ne peut (ni ne voudrait) s'engager dans un tel projet sans l'appui concret du gouvernement.        

C'est pour cela que je dis que Taschereau va se faire avant depuis la présentation de ce projet. La réalité, c'est que le REM Notre-Dame a besoin de plus de temps de planification.

BUT. @Fortier reminds me and makes me wonder: if the Caisse’s hand is indeed forced and a downtown segment is obligated to go underground, why must it necessarily go along René-Lévesque and parallel to the Verte? Why couldn’t it go diagonally from below Centrale towards PMR, VR, RPP etc?

Elle y a implicitement renoncé quand elle s'est présentée toute souriante à l'annonce du projet du REM de l'Est.  Dorénavant, tout ce qu'elle peut faire, c'est de proposer des améliorations à ce dernier.  Le 7 novembre prochain, je crains fort qu'elle ne puisse tenir entre ses mains un engagement définitif du gouvernement envers quelle que version que ce soit d'un projet de TEC lourd pour des secteurs de l'Est de la ville.  Je ne sais pas si elle voudra saluer les progrès dans la réalisation du prolongement de la ligne bleue du métro, dont la mise en service apparaîtra encore lointaine à ceux qui l'attendent depuis longtemps. Rien de tout cela n'est de sa faute, mais cela n'empêchera pas qu'une certaine déception se fasse sentir.

What would happen then to the Pointe-aux-Trembles segment? It seems to be a priority for the CAQ government.

To be honest, I'd rather have a REM pink line than a light metro line going to PAT, but I'm not sure the provincial government agrees.

Maybe the REM B could run under De la commune street in Old montreal and through cité mulitmédia to the Griffintown REM A station. East, It would run elevated or at grade on Ville marie or run elevated or underground on Notre-dame street until it get elevated pass the Jaques Cartier bridge. There's a lot of place to cut and cover on De la commune and Place d'youville, I'm just not certain on William street. The yellow line pass under Bonsecours market so they could create another station there with interchange with the REM B. And maybe create another station on the yellow and orange line at R-L as to reduce the Berri-UQAM congestion. There is a lot of jobs in the multimedia area and old port as well as many tourist and residents. Also the REM B could then get extended further along William street to go to Lachine.

You've got the old Pointe à Callière collector underground right under Place D'Youville. It's a patrimonial site. There's no way you can do cut and cover there. There a lot of history buried there. Any digging there is going to be costly because it's going to have to involve archaeologists.

Also, I'm no expert, but my understanding is that it's not possible to create a station on the yellow line at Marché Bonsecours without extensive modifications to the running tunnels.

Quelqu'un sait par où passe exactement l'égout intercepteur sud? Je sais que c'est près de la rue de la Commune, mais je n'ai jamais trouvé où exactement. Ça doit sans doute être un élément complexe, à voir les problèmes que ça a causé lors des travaux sur Robert-Bourassa.

Si la ligne devait passer par le Vieux-Montréal, je l'aurais plus vu utiliser l'emprise du chemin de fer actuel, où, j'imagine on pourrait facilement faire du cut and cover.

They will never go under old Montreal. EVER.
